I've had a few friends who had anxiety crossing bridges and viaducts, but what can you do to allay their fears?
Me driving. I am praying from one end of a bridge to the other. I hate rush hour, and news like this one just terrifies me because as much as the probability is low it's also no zero that a bridge would collapse. These families pray find peace and receive the support and help they need.
I remember around 1989ish (during the World Series, SF Giants vs the Oakland A's) we had a huge earthquake. We have 2 bridges that go into SF, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. On the Bay Bridge the top level flows one way and the bottom level flows the other. Well, during the earthquake part of the top level collapsed on to the bottom. Several cars were crushed and people died.
BB, I was watching that game on tv as the earthquake happened & I remember the pictures of that bridge pancaked onto the lower level. That was so horrible. A friend of my folks would normally have been on that lower level about that time but he got held up at work. Never were we so grateful for a delay! The Brent Spence that I mentioned above is the same way; 2 levels; one heading south from Cincy into Kentucky & the other, of course, from KY into Cincy.
This is the worst maritime disaster globally in history. Cranes can only lift up to 1000pds and bridge will have to be broken up. 1000s of jobs and billions on the line. Governor Moore on news now! Economic ramifications astounding. Going to rebuild Key Bridge. Long road to recovery. 18000 workers effected. 56 containers hazmat but will not be threatening to anyone. Perfume, batteries, etc. Car industry and agriculture overwhelmingly effected.
I was looking at pictures on the news this morning of that crane that's come in already & that is one huge thing! Wow! And that it can sit on a barge & lift like it can just boggles the mind!. NBC this morning was talking about the numbers of cranes & other equipment that would be brought in; what the divers were having to do before the removal can even begin, that the depth is only 50ft (I thought it would be deeper but again--I know nothing about this stuff!) & they'll have to remove all the debris, etc so it can't impact the ship traffic. Yeah, it's going to be bad before it gets better!

Sorry to hear you experience that. It is very real. Our police in Ohio and Kentucky have been criticized for chasing perps at high speeds sometimes across bridges into other states. Seems too risky to me. I like better when they outsmart & box in the perp. Yrs ago one Cinti cop went 100MPH downtown, in the wee hours, chasing perp's car.
Easter Service live on Fox now with Franklin Graham in Israel. Pray for the hostages.
And if one is the praying sort, while you're at it, pray for the dead on both sides and the starving in Gaza, and for leaders everywhere to find compassion and common sense to come to a resolution soon.

Since I am a "praying sort" I am praying for you.
Here comes the sun even though I love that rainy day feeling!

Quick question for any Mariana Zapata fans. Does she have a new book coming out (ever)? I know she did what I call a very brief edit on TWoWaM and All Rhodes Lead Here. Anything new?
BB I've never read any of her bks, but would appreciate why her bks are so popular. What are her main themes?
Natasha, Her themes bounce around. One of my favorites and the first one I read is football, The Wall of Winniepeg and Me, female soccer, ice skating, single aunt raising her two nephews and so on. I've read all of them. Probably my least favorite was When Gracie Met the Grump which had a super hero theme. Not my thing. I always look forward to her books. You can always count on Nora Roberts/JD Robb coming out with X amount of books each year but Zapata seems to be quite a bit slower.

I love watching sports, but do not like this theme in romance bks so sounds like Zapata not for me. I've read Roberts in the past. Years ago I met Roberts' nephew who responding to my "quip" that it seems like she always has a new bk, he stated she has problems sleeping.

Did enjoy the total eclipse yesterday; sat out in the driveway & watched the world get darker--it's a weird light; not like evening. It kept getting darker & darker & then at totality it was so dark that my neighbor's room (has a light that comes on at dusk &stays on all night) was lit, and the sky looked like sunset colors all around the horizon. Then totality ended & it was amazing how bright it seemed suddenly. Would have been as dark as it was before totality but sure seemed a lot brighter! Fascinating; worth all the hype!
Cincinnati wasn't inside the totality so one of the local stations came up to Oxford & broadcast all day from an uptown park: could tell they weren't used to Oxford--kept calling it downtown! But you walk up thru the campus (long slope) to the center of town so it's always been called uptown. The University had several watch parties on campus; many of the frats were having watch parties on their front yards (yep, how toasted can we get during the eclipse?) and then a big one uptown. The same station also had a crew over at the Indianapolis Speedway and man, the traffic on I-74 between Indy & Cincy afterwards was heavy for hours! Same between Oxford & Cincy on 27! Normally, the first is around 1 & 1/2 hrs or so, the 2nd about half an hour. Not this time!
We lucked out; had rain during the night but the clouds mostly cleared out; blue skies with thin wispy clouds, plus in the mid-70's. Beautiful! Today; cloudy, finally a bit of sun peeking thru at times & rain moving in later, plus temp only in the mid-60's at most. Sure a difference but hey, got to see it yesterday!
