This huge container ship (970K tons?) wreck will greatly interrupt commuters and businesses. It goes without saying the workers on the bridge who fell into the river had a slim chance as the water was 48 degrees- hypothermia weather.
Kanye is spoiled and not the brightest bulb in the drawer. Yrs ago he asked fans to send him $ to pay his bills- he had the $ on his own- sounds like a man in the news everyday now. So Kanye & this man have in common- they don't bother knowing history or geography or the law, and either man would only have compassion if he borrowed some from someone else. And they both claim to be spiritual- untrue. Off my soapbox.
kc I'll latch on to add that yes they today's Democrats are not the same as when the party was started by those who were for the crown, slavery, anti women's rights and more. The Republicans of that era were the rebels (liberals, the representatives of the citizens and not the crown) of today those who wanted equality, freedom and the right to exist with a livable wage, really not so different agenda today, just that now they switched in party names. A change that came when Democrats were loosing seats due to citizens voting Republicans (the start of black politicians being more in forefront and not just "rebels") in because of their ideas and policies, Democrats then began to switch out to infiltrate the Republican party or because a Democratic party in their county or state did something they disliked and they took their business elsewhere. The some of those changes had to do with migration (another never ending story, no one learns a thing and history starts to repeat itself). But in my opinion this two party political system isn't good, there aren't any changes, our laws and clauses are so far behind, basic necessities that are what allows it's citizens to live a comfortable life such as health care is nonexistent for everyone,. The USA is a do as I say not as I do type of country, wants in on everyone's business but wants other countries to mind their business.
All I just said is all a simplified version of events, so much more took place for the switch up.
Natasha The men who were working that nightshift, not knowing what the outcome would be. I cried when I read one of them had a 5 year old little one, I only imagined my son who waits by the door or the window of our home for his daddy whenever my husband leaves the house for either work or errands. How those families world just changed forever.
I want to only say this on the Key subject: I think of it like this, a man or woman could be amazing in their craft or multiple things, and leave a legacy that could seem worthy of support and reverence and just like the good they were doing to those they cared or wanted to help they could also be someone's (or in this case multiple people's) worse nightmare. He was an advocate for slavery, took runaway slaves to court, came from a family that dealt in slavery, but the song says the land of the free, a case for freedom for a few not everyone had he not had a change of heart. I'm just saying look at it through the lenses of the people who are making that ask, we sometimes forget that what may not affect us, could be hurting someone else no matter how much time has passed. And yes I know he later had a change of heart hence the whole song and what started this conversation, but at times making amends doesn't undo all the damage already done.
I'm more into the idea that the people could submit names and then a poll can determine the winner. It will take a while but it's an idea.
IMO, God values everyone so I'm sad the men patching the bridge did not have enough notice to be saved. The 'mayday' call was given and first responders were on either end of the bridge to stop more traffic entering the bridge. The news reported the huge container ship was ashore for repairs. So maybe the problem was not solved.
Back to Kanye. I think someone who's a hater needs to have counseling. Hate of others can be hate of himself/ herself. To support Nazis, Neo Nazis or to claim Nazis reside in Ukraine strikes me as too paranoid for words. Some of the 'sources' have no sources. Some of the John Birch Society baloney of 50-60 years ago re NATO/ other topics is being re-hashed now. I liked a guy in HS, but his dad was a Bircher- too much for me. Sorry, I'm too opinionated.

To be honest I don't notice any hysteria. It sounds like frustration and anger. Why bring up the name of the bridge now? Who cares? How long has the bridge had this name? Why complain now? They can call it the Joe Blow bridge for all we should care and instead focus on the lives lost and perhaps our southern border, China, Russia, Israel, Gaza and Ukraine.

Perhaps hysteria was a strong word. But three exclamation points, "far left woke a holes" -- it's the language of the manufactured, inflammatory rhetoric of Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham and Hannity and the like at the Fox entertainment channel.
I agree, the focus should be on the tragedy of the lost lives and the monumental task of recovery. There are a lot of smart minds out there; hopefully, they'll be busy figuring out how to mitigate the economic problems the bridge collapse will cause.

Yes who cares the name of the bridge. Finding the bodies & cleaning up the debris and getting back to work should be the main goal. And re-building. And preventing another such disaster.

Obviously I know what you think of me. BTW which state do you live in?
Here comes the sun even though I love that rainy day feeling!

Romancereader---Some state lawmakers want to erase black history etc. Lawmakers tend to chiefly know history of Europeans immigrating to the US. Here's an old-fashioned idea- state or fed lawmakers send or email a survey to those you represent. You can't speak for constituents if you don't ask them their priorities.
Have the hosts of Fox News graduated from journalism school? Taken ethics classes? Ironic what Fox reported on air on Jan6 (real time) and what they said behind the scenes, was opposite. They knew they had a riot at the Capitol and knew it wasn't ANTIFA. And 45 ignored the oath he took. This came out in the voting machine (IIRC made in Canada) trial, against Fox News. Historians will not be kind to Mitch McConnell for his contribution (placating 45) to the day the wheels nearly came off our democracy.
As a native of Baltimore and have used this bridge, I am still upset. When you see something like this locally IMO has more of an impact.
I agree fully on that one, Natasha. Of course, our local stations immediately started speculating/talking to engineering experts, etc--could this happen here? Of course it could--it could happen anywhere there's a bridge with traffic on the river it crosses. Granted here in Cincinnati, we're not going to have those monster size ships with all those tons of cargo containers stacked up on them, but the bridges aren't that big either! However, a coal barge breaking loose from the line & the tug boat pushing it along could make a mess of our bridges that have lots of traffic all the time. And yep, it's occurred to me as I went over the Brent Spence (I-75/I-71) bridge more than once. But shoot, some days it feels like you could get shoved off that bridge as you go across! I used to cross it at all hours day & night & it was always busy! (back when I did a lot more roaming than I do now!)
And yes, no matter how it happened, where, etc; unfortunately, if someone dies, there's so many other folks affected by that death. Maybe parents who needed that support his job brought, or a wife & child, or just a large extended family that now has a gap in it. Some days, esp with all the shootings that seem to be in the news every single day; sure makes it hard to watch if you start thinking about families. I gripe when they televise a family member talking about the death, etc--shoving that person on the tv, but at times, I think we need it to try to remind folks--you shot someone's child, father, mother, etc. Why? and that's my soapbox, and now I'm depressed!
Maybe I'll go do a little shopping therapy with that 3x points...like I need more books!
I've had a few friends who had anxiety crossing bridges and viaducts, but what can you do to allay their fears? Our infra-structure in many cities is not safe. The former US Congress guy, Steve, for the West Side of Cinti ignored the Brent Spence bridge and the crumbling Western Hills viaduct for years. I've read the US Congress provides a movie theatre, a bowling alley and several eateries, a subway system etc. Is that how Steve Chabot spent his time? It angers me when our reps are lazy-asses. Or only want TV interviews. Senator Sherrod Brown is running again, he's helped the Ohio car industry (converting a car factory to new car co. or new tech), getting bills passed for military vets exposed to burn pits & Teamsters whose pensions were cut in 1/2. He does not sit on his hands- he gets to work. He helped acclimate new US junior Senator JD Vance. He works w/ Republications, not against them, to get legislation done. Let's get bridges etc 'up to speed.'

I remember around 1989ish (during the World Series, SF Giants vs the Oakland A's) we had a huge earthquake. We have 2 bridges that go into SF, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. On the Bay Bridge the top level flows one way and the bottom level flows the other. Well, during the earthquake part of the top level collapsed on to the bottom. Several cars were crushed and people died. I happened to be in the hospital just having had surgery the day before and watched this happen on TV. My folks still lived in the Bay Area on a hill and I remember being scared to death that their home had gone down the hill. My folks and their home were safe.
ETA - Actually we have 3 bridges, I forgot the San Mateo Bridge. It's kinda a boring bridge.

I remember they showed that on the news, all those poor souls. Glad you & fam were Ok.
This is the worst maritime disaster globally in history. Cranes can only lift up to 1000pds and bridge will have to be broken up. 1000s of jobs and billions on the line. Governor Moore on news now! Economic ramifications astounding. Going to rebuild Key Bridge. Long road to recovery. 18000 workers effected. 56 containers hazmat but will not be threatening to anyone. Perfume, batteries, etc. Car industry and agriculture overwhelmingly effected.
