Good grief Josie. What a day you had. I'm just glad you finally got what you wanted. That's crazy. Good luck with the makeover. So do you live in New York City? I used to watch Governor Quomo's Covid 19 press conferences when New York was the worst virus hotspot in the USA. He was pretty no nonsense about getting that curve to flatten. I know all politician's have their merits and faults, but I had to admire how hard he tried to turn things around. I especially rooted for the hospital personnel tirelessly working hours on end to help the dying. It would make me cry to see what they faced at the peak of things. And now everyone on the east coast is hunkering down for the path of Hurricane Isaias! The hits keep on coming!
I'm just glad the day is over Ms.D.! Tomorrow is definitely going to be a day of rest. But come Monday morning, the work begins. Yes, I live in a borough of NYC. Governor Cuomo wasn't taking anyone's bs. For the most part, I think he did an excellent job handling the virus. After a while I couldn't watch the press conferences anymore because it was too heartbreaking. I'm just glad we aren't the epicenter any longer. There are still things we can't do compared to the rest of the state but I'm fine with that. I won't truly be comfortable till we have a vaccine. I think the remnants of Hurricane Isaias will pass by us on Tuesday. I don't know how people deal with hurricanes. Super Storm Sandy did a number on us here and it wasn't even a full fledged hurricane. That's why I'll never move to Florida. I'd rather go through a snowstorm than a hurricane.
Josie, I have relatives in Florida and they put up with hurricane destruction all the time. They love living near the beach, but I don't think I could do it. I agree that the only real hope is a vaccine. I keep hoping one will be ready by the end of this year or even before.
kareni , it can legitimately happen I agree, but the painter texted me immediately after my sister (who also getting some painting done) asked her why she had responded to her text and not mine. And then, what a coincidence, my text just happened to go through so she could respond to it.
I hear you. What a coincidence, indeed! I hope all is now resolved.

it has to a degree; she will be coming the week of August 15th to do the great room; she did paint one room at my sister's and she did a good job. Besides she's my niece's best friend so I'm kind of stuck
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.
I hope everyone in the path, etc did okay with Isaiahs (sp?). He wasn't a hurricane for very long but that tropical storm sure stayed pretty close to the hurricane numbers!
We were talking a while back about teachers & going back to school face to face? My SIL took us all by surprise yesterday. She said she'd been thinking about it for some time as she is 60 & diabetic. The teachers in her system don't have the option of teaching online--family opts for that, the system has purchased access to a product that will do the online teaching. The system's teachers have to do face to face & she decided that she can't. So effective immediately, she's retired. She has 33 years in at that system & 3 prior to that in another system so she's in pretty good shape for retirement. She could have retired a few years ago but was waiting till my brother was closer to retirement. He has about 15 years in the private sector & 15 years at the University so want's to go a while longer yet. But at any rate, another member of the family has joined the retirement ranks.
kc , in her shoes I would be doing the same thing. When people are refusing to wear masks, it makes you wonder how strenuously they are following the other rules like washing hands and social distancing. I was at Walmart today and there were quite a few people without masks, our city has mandated use in public areas.
The back to school plans here are are minimal because kids aren't in danger. The kicker was the press conference to announce grades 4-12 would have to wear masks was done remotely because it wasn't safe for our Education Minister and Chief Medical Officer to be in the same room with the media. After all they might contract COVID.
As for the hurricane, my daughter was worried about the rainfall from it (she's inland) but her rainfall was less than mine in western Canada.
I thought WalMart had mandated masks to shop in there? Or are they afraid of enforcing? After watching that video of the woman attacking an elderly woman because the woman asked that she wear her mask properly (it was on but not over her nose & mouth), plus people being shot; I'm afraid I'd be afraid to try to enforce without a whip & a cop nearby! Elderly woman, recent liver transplant (so she's got to be worried about germs!) using a cane & the gal grabbed the cane & used it to sling the woman across about 10 ft to the floor. The elderly woman broke the tibia in her leg & required surgery. Hallelujah, they've announced that the gal has been identified & is being charged with aggravated assault, etc.
Kids aren't in danger? Headline today, 7 year old boy diagnosed with Covid-19 in Georgia--their youngest patient. Yes, most kids are recovering, but some are developing a result a bit later that apparently is attacking multiple organs & some kids are dying or will have major problems for the rest of their lives.
And yesterday, when Ohio Gov. DeWine had to cancel his meeting with Trump (who was campaigning at a Whirlpool factory in NE Ohio) because he'd been tested positive for Covid-19, then later, they did a 2nd test, different type, apparently better test & it's result was negative. They did it again, & again negative. I think DeWine's body said "I don't want to shake Trump's hand!" and came up with a reaction to block!
I'm glad she didn't have the torrents of rain that some areas did! I bet everyone was happy when that TS was really hustling it's way thru the NE!

My friend had covid symptoms but tested negative and the testing sight said there are a lot of false negatives but she was told to quarantine since she had the symptoms. As for shaking hands no matter who it is best not to just like everyone's choice to wear a mask. However some do not use common sense. Also a person could be tested today and the result is for that day only!!!!!!! Reminds me of newscasters stating we should all be tested all the time just like the President and the administration. Thank the Lord for Warp Speed program and pray soon for vaccine.
Here comes the sun even though I love that rainy day feeling!

I was at the grocery store this AM, mandatory masks a must, and the man in line in front of me had a mask on but around his chin. Dummy. He had 2 teenage kids with him who at least had their masks on correctly.
Well, technically, he was wearing a mask--just not the way we meant, but some folks will use that excuse because the rules don't specifically state over the nose & mouth! Some people just like to be smart-a**es and claim no one tells them what to do!
I thought WalMart had mandated masks to shop in there? Or are they afraid of enforcing?
I believe WalMart has said while they "require" masks they are not enforcing because they fear for employee safety. Which IMO is disturbing on so many fronts.

Considering 2 people shot dead for trying to enforce when that's part of their jobs; other people attacked for it. Yeah, like I said, I wouldn't want to have to enforce without a whip & a cop nearby! Some days I just flat wonder about people!
Hi, BB, we were bracing, but happily they calmed down some before getting to my area. They were talking so about the wind that I went out & took down my hanging pots & put a few things away that could go flying. Then when it finally got here (about 9:30) garden variety thunderstorm. I think the winds were running about 35-40 mph gusts and after reports of 100+ mph in Iowa & 60+ mph in Illinois & NW Indiana--I'll live happily with 35-40! Yes, that picture they were showing of the farm silos, etc, all twisted & torn apart was scary--and I think that was the straight-line winds, not a tornado!
Not that hot today, up to 77 so far with a predicted high of 83, but hardly any breeze & the humidity is high--dew point is 73. My hands keep feeling like they're sticking to the keyboard! I've not yet turned on the a/c as not that warm today--but thank goodness for ceiling fans! But not getting much accomplished so far today...good weather for reading! (isn't everything?)
