Sports this year is looking a little off, since there's a baseball team who has like 16 or 17 players who have the virus, and there's others who are also testing positive. I pray they recuperate soon.
It's the Florida Marlins that are testing positive. I believe it's half the roster that are positive. I really don't think that sports should have restarted in the US yet. At least not until the curve has flattened. These guys are in close proximity, whether it be in the locker room, dugout, or bus traveling to other games. Who knows where the others have been or with whom they've been around before practice and games. If the MLB would have done what the NBA and MLS did and have all the players in a "bubble" maybe the players wouldn't have tested positive. But the players refused to do that. They didn't want to be away from their families, which I can understand. But now they are facing the consequences of that decision. I watch Italian soccer and there hasn't been any problems since the restart. It's mainly because Italy has flattened the curve. There still are no fans in the stadium, but at least it's something to watch.
I feel bad for all the students, faculty and staff that have to back to school. I don't think it's a good idea. Yes, children need to be in school and educated but not at the risk to their lives. If I was a parent I wouldn't send my kids to school. I'd be in too much fear for them. Heck if I was still a student I would refuse to go back. Until we flatten the curve we have to figure out a new way of teaching them.
Josie, I agree about the sports starting too soon and only quarantining a team together before they play can prevent the spread. I feel the same about sending kids back to school. I don't think it should be done with cases on the rise, asymptomatic carriers, and difficulties with testing in the USA right now.
Mrsc, I feel your struggle and my heart goes out to you. I'm a retired teacher and I've thought about what I might do during this pandemic. What about students with special needs? Students are missing out on quality in-person instruction and crucial social skills, but what dangers might they face if they return to school?
I believe history will show that my country, the USA, is in one of the biggest crises in its history with this pandemic because we never had a federally led, coherent, scientifically and medically evidence-based plan for every city or state mandated as law in an emergency. We can't fight this until we can efficiently test, trace, isolate, and wipe the spread out. It takes sacrifice and seriously following restrictions. But many people refuse for a variety of selfish or irrational reasons.
We live in a wealthy nation and have a legislature that (if they would just work together) could have put economic relief and health care in place for low income citizens and the jobless for a substantial period and stay in phases 1 and 2 as needed until all hot spots disappeared. It would have saved lives. We rushed to reopen. We rushed through the phases without strictly following the CDC's suggestions for reopening. Some governors and mayors moved too quickly or were influenced by party politics. Surges continue everywhere.
I may be wrong in some of my assumptions or too idealistic, but I still think a national plan that everyone would follow is better than the lack of direction we are living under now. Our citizens were thrown to the mercy of its governors and local leaders who were not prepared for any of this. Politics, racial divisions, and civil unrest should not be an excuse for people ignoring government mandates or health guidelines in a major pandemic! So many unneccesary illness and deaths in the USA. It saddens me for the country I love. Come on USA, get it together!
Mrs. D, I fully understand & feel your frustration! All your concerns, plus people saying it's just a hoax created to make Trump look bad, etc. 151,000+ dead in 7 months (Feb-July) and it's a hoax? Claiming that all those people didn't die from the virus; that they shouldn't have to wear masks, or not do things that they want to do? I've had to come to the conclusion that it's a good thing we're not fighting WWII in this era; Americans can't hold the line anymore & that's how they won then! Anything that isn't what they want, heaven forbid they should have to do otherwise!
I really feel for those with children; they may have the option in their school system to keep their children home & use online classes, but what if they have to work? What if they can't afford to stay home with those children & help them with (plus keep them focused) on the classes or their job won't let them? We're sure not doing anything to help them with that!
Why to people have to lie? I was checking on the status of the funds in my husband's name at a bank today and the person working (?) the file told me she had been without email for 15 days. Then how did she respond to my earlier email 10 days ago?
I sent a text to a painter who might or might not be doing my condo; she replies to the text 6 days later telling me she doesn't always receive texts from Iphones. Well, she responded to it didn't she? What am I missing?
Why can't they just admit they were busy and dropped the ball, apologize and move on.
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.
Janice, I'm with you. I have a friend that delays or does not always get back to me and then claims they didn't get it or service was interrupted. It ticks me off. I try to get back to any email or text almost immediately unless I really am in the middle of something important. And then I still get back asap. But that's just the way I roll. I actually consider it rude to be ignored by a friend or family member and unprofessional from someone who wants my business. Sometimes I guess a person thinks they are doing the kinder thing to not admit that they honestly ignored you or got too busy to get back to you and just lie as an excuse or to not look careless. It's the glaring truth, but probably embarrassing to admit. When they pull something like that, do they really think we're dumb or something if we know they got the original emails and texts? We know what really happened.
I have an AT&T cellphone. Every few weeks, I'll send texts to my daughter or husband, and the texts either don't ever arrive or they arrive hours or days later. One time my husband received a text message from a co-worker about two MONTHS later.
kareni, it can legitimately happen I agree, but the painter texted me immediately after my sister (who also getting some painting done) asked her why she had responded to her text and not mine. And then, what a coincidence, my text just happened to go through so she could respond to it.
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.
Wow Kareni, that is weird. I guess I will have to give the benefit of the doubt to people more often if I don't have any proof otherwise. I've never known any friend or family member who actually had delayed messages now and again. Maybe it has something to do with certain carriers. Two months late!
Probably afraid you'll think if they dropped the ball with the email response that you'll think they'll do the same with the job and not give it to them. I'd like it better if they admit to dropping the ball & promise it won't happen with the job!. Does take me back to decades ago, I attended a conference in Chicago, as I was leaving the hotel before coming home, I mailed some postcards to some friends here at home so they could have postcards from Chicago. Took 3 months for those postcards to arrive in SW Ohio! Probably got stuck somewhere in a corner of a bag/box/whatever...but at least they did arrive!
It's been a long day over at my house. Before I get what went on, here's a little backstory. I decided to redecorate my bedroom. I'm downsizing from a full size bed to a twin size. I want a makeup vanity in my room and to get that, I need a smaller bed. And since I'm fixing my room, I might as well change the flooring, right? Because of covid, I'm not comfortable selling my bed because it would have to be a local pickup. Anyway, my dad was talking to my neighbor. She said her son was moving soon and that he would take it when got his new place. But this was about a month or so ago. So, I can't do anything else till the bed is gone. Well, fast forward to today. I was making some bread with my mom. Once we were done, I had to make the pizza dough. As I'm weighing the dough my dad comes in and says my neighbor can take the bed. I told my dad to tell him I'll take it apart later and he can get it tomorrow. Nope. He needs it today. I wasn't prepared for that. I had to take everything out from under the bed and take the comforter off. So I finished with the dough, had a quick lunch and got to work. I'm exhausted and my feet are killing me. I had so much stuff to sort through but I got through it. Now my problem is that I need to get a mattress. I thought I'd have more time to get one. The one I was going to get from Wayfair would take 5-6 weeks. I can't wait that long. I only have a recliner to sleep on. I think I found one I like from Macy's. The only thing I don't like about ordering it online is that it's hard to pick one when you can't lay on one to test it. But I think you can try it out for like a hundred days and return it if you don't like it.
Josie, life seldom goes the way we plan. Sorry you had to rush to get things done unexpectedly. I guess there are reviews about the mattresses from buyers that could help you decide about which to order. I hope it will be a good fit for you.
I have had the toughest Friday and rough start to Saturday. Yesterday I woke up to walk my dogs, only to find my shih tzu sick (heavy breathing, slobber was heavy and thick and all over his snout), I quickly looked over the pug who was thankfully fine. I called the vet and then the hubby and then my dad to come pick up the pug so that if what my Fuzzy had was contagious my Ziggy wouldn't catch it. I went off to the vet and they flushed his system and had him on observation for the day. Meanwhile I was panicked and trying not to loose my mind, revising his food to see if there was anything off with his treats... I picked him up late evening, took him home and spent a the night observing him as instructed. I have checked the area where they sleep, the garage and the paths we walk looking for anything that could have caused any kind of poisoning, found nothing. I have been giving him his medications as per doctor's orders and keeping him cool. They thought it could have also been heat exhaustion, but he had not been out on walk in two days due to how hot it was. The dogs have the AC on all day since they are short/snub nosed, and water at their disposal in two different rooms which is always open to them. The most relief was when I heard all of his organs are fine and all his tests came back normal, unfortunately today one of my neighbors also rushed out with their dog (a beautiful lab, named Dollie) to the vet with the same symptoms... Today Fuzzy is better and was rather playful and back to his normal self.

I'm not going to excuse this person's email issues, but I'll tell you my story when I was in my final semester and I was applying for internships and jobs.
My internship applications had to be submitted through the University student email and forwarded to the professor of the class as well as my advisor and the department head. I had been doing all of that, and only my advisor was actually responding, let me explain that all of their emails were written correctly and I had a classmate who was also in the same process, look at them as well before sending them. In the end none of the emails reached the places where I needed to apply for the internships so I missed out and those opportunities, and the professor reached out to me giving me a warning I was going to fail because I was not meeting deadlines. Panicking and frustrated because I wasn't hearing from anyone I went to the head of my department, and he was like I haven't read any of your emails, I haven't even seen any of them in my inbox. I showed him my sent emails, and he was also confused. I then had to go to the IT department to see what was happening, turns out the IT department had messed up my account and once they fixed it, everyone was bombarded with my emails. I recieved quite a few rejections emails, but the department head and professor and advisor vouched for me when one company program contacted them.

Ain't that the truth. I had another one of those days today. I went to Home Depot to get the flooring I wanted. They didn't have it in stock at my local one so I went to another one near by that had it in stock. We got there and my dad and I couldn't find the display. We asked the employee to check. Before he could even check, the battery died on the scanner So we waited for him to get a new battery. When he finally is able to check he tells me that it is in stock. However, he can't get it for me because it's on the truck and they don't know which one. Strike 2. We went home to have lunch. Then I thought to check if it's available to pick up on Long Island. Only one had them in stock. But I called to make sure and he said they had 20. After I sat in traffic for nearly an hour I got to the store. I ask an employee to make sure its in stock and she checks and it is. She was busy helping someone so she got another person to get it for me. I told him what was needed and he proceeds to take me to the aisle with flooring and shows me the wrong one! I was looking for bamboo flooring and he showed me vinyl. So I explained to him what I was looking for. He looked around and luckily was able to locate it. It just needed to be brought down from the top shelf. Third times the charm. Or in this case third Home Depot is the charm
As for the mattress, the one I want has pretty good reviews but its those few negative that get to me. But still, it's the brand I had before, so it should work for me.
Good grief Josie. What a day you had. I'm just glad you finally got what you wanted. That's crazy. Good luck with the makeover. So do you live in New York City? I used to watch Governor Quomo's Covid 19 press conferences when New York was the worst virus hotspot in the USA. He was pretty no nonsense about getting that curve to flatten. I know all politician's have their merits and faults, but I had to admire how hard he tried to turn things around. I especially rooted for the hospital personnel tirelessly working hours on end to help the dying. It would make me cry to see what they faced at the peak of things. And now everyone on the east coast is hunkering down for the path of Hurricane Isaias! The hits keep on coming!
