3.5 stars for this Victorian romance.
The story featured unconventional couple: taciturn innkeeper/ prizefighter/ smuggler Will &
former school teacher left with few coins Mina. Mina liked simplicity. She had worn-out,
patched clothing, which she dyed black after her dad died. This had real romance and
sexiness & thoughtful gestures.
The author had me 'all in,' until she added these elements: the baddies & Mina's huge
new wardrobe. I could almost hear Madonna singing "Material Girl."
