On July 3, my grandma died. I'm taking this hard. I'm revisiting one her favorite books as a child. Betsy-Tacy by Maud Hart Lovelace and the other books in the series. It was the summer before second grade when grandma introduced me to Betsy and I have to admit, this seven-year old turned up her nose when she looked at the title and cover ( I'm ashamed to admit that I thought the title of book was "stupid" ) but i read it anywhere and I was glad she gave me the book, I loved Betsy-Tacy and this seven year old bookworm learned don't judge a book by its title. Today I'm re-reading 'Heaven to Betsy' (I even have my mom re-reading it) and were having little mother daughter book discussions.

My sincerest condolences, such a loss is hard. I lost one grandmother, and still have one whose a real firecracker. I hope you find solace in the books and with your mom. May those memories live in your mind for a long time.
foureyedgirl, my sympathies on the death of your grandmother. I hope that memories of happy times together and books you both enjoyed will bring you comfort.
My condolences foureyedgirl. I never knew my grandparents. When we were very little my Grandma did send us a book for our mum to read to us. A beautiful hardcover book, a Polish fairy story, she wrote a few nice words on the inside of the cover. It is all I have from her. This book lay forgotten in my Mum's library. When she passed away and I was cleaning up I found it and cried (a lot), it triggered so many good memories. It now sits on my bookshelf in the study and every time I see it I remember Grandma and Mum. The magic of a simple book.
Just finished Virginia Heath's The Scoundrel's Bartered Bride and enjoyed it. It's a MOC, enemies to lovers, second chance story. The characters are all good people, there's humor, and a villain you can spot easily, IMO. Not her best, but entertaining. The one thing I can't figure out about Heath's stories is that they always have errors with the verb forms of "sit" and "stand." Maybe it's a Kindle thing, but all her books have these verbs used incorrectly. Strange.
foureyedgirl, I'm sorry you've lost your grandma; I was very lucky; I had three & I didn't lose them until very late in my life. Unfortunately, the grandpa's went much earlier!
I met Betsy & Tacy in the children's section of a local library & loved the whole series! My favorites now are Betsy & the Great World; Betsy's Wedding (yes, she does marry Joe!--of course!) and Emily of Deep Valley which is related to the series (can you tell by the town name?) Betsy makes an appearance, along with Tacy, Tib, Carney & Alice. I highly recommend this one! Emily of Deep Valley

I finished Madeline Martin's The Last Bookshop in London and liked it a lot. It is an historical fiction with a bit of romance. Grace and her friend Viv have left the country for London just before the Germans begin their Blitz of the city.

4 eyed girl---
Sorry to hear about your grandma. Grandparents are so special. Mom read to me as a kid, but both sets of grandparents lived so far away we seldom saw them, & I don't recall them reading stories to us. A fav trip: Mom + her 4 kids took the train to Louisiana from Ohio to visit her family.
I finished G.L. Robinson's The Lord and the Cat's Meow, a traditional Regency romance, also a KU. It tells of two couples that are all friends, but seem to be paired up wrong. It has all the correct ingredients of a true Regency with plenty of banter, action, light-hearted romance and a cat that causes some problems and solutions. Good for an entertaining, clean read.
So I have been reading the same book for a week and moved on maybe 3 pages in the past week as well. I either fall asleep, or the baby needs me or I have to feed myself or just something gets my attention first before the book does. Witches Get Stitches by Juliette Cross The funny thing is that I had been looking forward to this book for a while now... oh well, slow reading it is.
