I am fine with spiders and unless they are in the bedroom then I let them be. But if I spy a cockroach then I start running especially if its one of those small flying buggers that seem to always aim straight for you. Give me a spider any day.

Oh yes - I forgot the huge Sydney cockroaches, just for the spray! Hate them.
Yes, they do. In my grandma's home country they have those ugly brown roaches, and those effers fly! And then they cling to to you! *Shudders...* That's the city.
And in the country side because they still would use latrines' in certain parts of the country side that's where they love hanging out in groups!
My few visits were not fun one, she has family in one major city but also there were a few that moved to the country side back when they were running away from persecutors.
Flying roaches are a regular sight in the deep south of the US. They don't phase me because I've seen them all my life. We have little ones and big ones that fly.

My grandpa would say, you won't survive the south. My brothers are deathly afraid of roaches, I'm not, but they disgust me.

The South has as many dangerous or deadly animals as Australia. Ours are just usually a little smaller. We have black widow and brown widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, and several species of rattlesnakes. In the rivers, we have water moccasin snakes, alligators, snapping turtles, and the alligator gar fish. The Everglades and the Okeefenokee are being invaded ny non-native species of boas, pythons, and large lizards. I think back to my childhood when we used to swim in the rivers all day, and in Lake Eufuala with all its alligators. I don't get off a boat now. Lol!
My great-grandparents didn't have a toilet in the house (southern Missouri); we used the outhouse. Never worried about spiders & snakes (altho maybe I should have thought about the snakes..)but I did worry about those chickens wandering in & pecking at my legs!

You southern girls are much tougher than we northern girls. We do have black widows and in the summer I'll go out to the patio and around the pool with a flashlight and a big can of Raid. They come out in the dark and I zap them.
