1) The Spinster's Captain (Spinster #1)
A Victorian kisses-only romance based on a true story. Gave it 4 of 5 stars.
Capt. Robert Crawford carried goods & now passengers, for his shipping co. employer. He was cynical toward women
due to his mother (whereabouts unknown). He spent most of his time at sea. Most thought him aloof or taciturn.
Witty and charming first mate, David, knew how to talk to women. He saw the worth of Agnes before the Captain did.
Agnes had 10 sibs & grieved for her gent farmer sire. She traveled from Scotland to America to work for her brother
"Robbie" who lived there. She arranged to be the paid temporary companion on the ship of widowed Mrs. Topping,
bound for Canada. Capt. noted that Agnes was strong-willed.
Brusque Capt. Crawford avoided passengers. The captain made an insulting, poorly executed MOC proposal. I liked the
pacing, dialogue and atypical MCs.
2) The Spinster's Second Chance (Spinster #2)
This Victorian kisses-only rom, based on a true story, was Jane's story, older sister of Agnes. 3 of 5 stars.
Took place in mostly 1846. Jane + George loved each other nearly from the start, after meeting at a house party.
George's means of support seemed vague.
Jane's older married sister, Ann, added family drama & irritation. My favorite scene? when Jane confronted a man
who misrepresented himself.
