The 3rd and last Spinster book, based on a true story. Took place in rural New York 1846.
Had kisses and closed-door intimacy. Robert "Robbie" (who I'll call Rob) originally a Scottish
farmer and now in the US, was the bro of Agnes (bk#1) & Jane (bk#2). Rob saved money
toward his own farm but wanted to learn more about farming in rural New York. 3.5 stars,
rounded up to 4.
Rob met American, Elisabeth, who grew up on a farm, but had servants too. She'd been
dumped by a suitor, after her sire made a bad investment, which failed. The MCs discussed
a MOC. They agreed to wed, but to hold off on the consummation, until both became comfortable
w/ each other. She rolled up her sleeves and was willing to learn cooking and more about farming.
MCs joined Ben + Mary in their 40s, on their farm, who served as farm mentors. 3 other couples
joined them. They learned how to manage a farm, while each couple was expected to work-hard
to justify their room and board. These couples encountered 2-legged and 4-legged threats to their
way of life.
The MCs grew to trust each other. Rob wanted no part of sentimental love, until he was smitten.
My favorite scene? Elizabeth's response to Rob's macho bragging in front of his new male friends.
I wish there was a bk#4 so sibs from the 3 books could visit together & we could see their lives
further on.
