Berkshire & London, June 1818, onward. Gave this 4 of 5 stars. A 'slow burn.'

Widowed Cora had a son, Theo, now 4 & Tess, now 2. Her viscount spouse had been an
indifferent spouse & sire. But he had time for opera dancers. Cora was "guardian of nurture"
for the kids well-being and former SIL Edith and spouse were named in the will to safely
manage Theo's inheritance, until he reached his majority. Edith overstepped and tried to tell
Cora how to raise the children, & even threatened to take them away. Edith was unaware
of spouse's wondering eye?
Cora's best friend, Lady Tabitha, "Tabby" had a roguish 27 year old brother, Nathaniel "Nate"
who agreed to enter into a faux engagement w/ Cora. (Cora did Nate a favor when she met
him 5 yrs prior.) She completed a contract promising to pay him for this role. His enthusiasm
was low, but with time he grew to love Cora and the kids.
This had great dialogue with a couple who found love and made love. Cora and Edith had a
final meeting- this was my favorite scene. Also Nate comforted Tess who feared dogs.
Nate did soul-searching & grew in maturity & sincerity. Cora grew in confidence.
