I loath anything that involves BDSM. I refuse to read any book like that. I can take a spanking, possibly while doing doggie style, or even tied to a bed where the H is pleasuring the h like there is no tomorrow. But that’s it! No dog collars, no whipping, pouring candle wax, nipple pinching, nothing! I read a book once, it’s since been pulled, and it had choking involved. Horrible horrible book! I bleached my brain afterwards with multiple rereads of some of my favourite reads.
My sentiments exactly! And that brings me to another pet peeve; why is it that whatever the H does, h automatically likes? Be it anal, oral, tie up, crawl on the floor, spanking or even standing on her head ... no matter what, he does it and she loves it ... no matter that she is experiencing it the first time; she loves it ....
And why do all authors and I really mean all of them describe h's reaction to anal as 'dark pleasure'? What exactly is dark pleasure? Can't they find any other terms? I think one author used this term and others followed ...
I don't get it either - and it all adds to my huge ranty peeve of why is it always the hero knowing the heroine better than she knows herself?... I can tell just by a 2 second look at you you're really a sub just dying for me to (and you're immediately gonna love it) tie you down/mark you with a crop/explore your nether regions like William Shatner (going where no man has gone before), etc, etc.
I really, really hate that! I'm still waiting for a heroine that says "spank me and you'll be drawing back a stump!" or "stick that THERE and you'll find a cucumber where the sun don't shine buster!" (coz, yeah - they're always, always on the huge that's-not-going-anywhere-near-there side).
Coke-can sized. And she has these dainty, tiny little hands that won't go around it. Really? REALLY? And this is not uncomfortable? At all? Ever?
Then he wants some back door action which she has never participated in previously but after only a few moments of pain she loves it. Only in Romancelandia.

I remember when BDSM started becoming prevalent in romance. It was interesting, strange, different and you just had to read it. Then the books got worse and worse and it just keeps hanging on. You can only read so much of that hard core stuff before it gets boring.
I usually skim over the sex parts if a story line is going good, but I just want to go back to a real romantic love story.

I have a rant: I do NOT like underaged h’s. It is so unbelievably skeevy to me when a H “waits for some teenager” to be ready. That’s called pedophila. I have no exceptions to this. If she is 17 and under and he is over 20 I have a problem with the story line.
In reality I don’t even care to read about teenage h’s, unless is YA. I have a teenage daughter so that may be leading my ick factor.
I can suspend belief with the best of them but in my 30+ years on this earth I’ve just seen these storylines play out in real life with no happy ending a little to much

I agree. I think that’s why I like historicals.
I’ve read some BDSM that was so over the top as to be criminal and disgusting and it just seems like it’s rarely done tastefully.
I’m making these faces the whole time I’m reading them 🤔😧😥...
Sometimes what I read ticks me off so badly, I have to take a break to retain my sanity. Such is the case now. Almost nothing peeves me more than gender inequality. The book I am reading right now has massive gender inequality.
The Godling has 40 wives. His wives and daughters are all part of the harem. The boys are separated from the females at age 7 and sent to the barracks never to see their mothers except during ceremonies from a distance. The males are taught that the females are only good for sex and child rearing. It is hoped that the boys will have magic. If the girls have magic they are castrated because sex is thought to increase the magic. There have been no magic wielding males in 5 years so to gain favor with the Gods the godling has sacrificed 4 of his daughters and is about to sacrifice a 5th. She has magic but hides it.
All I can think is three things: 1) ummm yeah hide that s$it. 2) sounds like killing your females isn't much of a sacrifice since you treat them like they are one step up from your luggage. 3) gee I wonder why you lost favor with the Gods since, ya know, they keep giving the females magic and you don't let them use it but instead torture them with castration.
alyrica, I'd have to stop reading the book. I can't imagine reading one where daughters are sacrificed. Ugh. My daughter's going to Homecoming tonight!!! I can't imagine sacrificing her!
I have a tough time reading BDSM stuff because sometimes it seems to be all the book is about and I want a good plot. I don't like reading about people being in pain; I read to escape so I don't want to read about someone being whipped -- I just don't want to. Now, a guy being an alpha in the bedroom? I'm fine with that!
That's why I sometimes read the Love Inspired books -- the storylines are simple, the characters are kind, it's a gentle world. Sometimes I need that after reading a tough book or heck, even watching the news!
Hey, I remember starting a book where the h was involved in a BDSM club and the H was a bodyguard there (wrong word but I can't think of the right one). He lets her strap him to a cross and whip him and he was totally turned on. It sounded so good but I ended up not finishing it because something else came out and I switched. Anyone have any idea what book it might have been? I read it within the last few months after it was discussed on the Ammy threads.

Servicing the Target (Masters of the Shadowlands Series Book 10) by Cherise Sinclair?

Yes, the attitude in general towards females was rage inducing. I did stop reading.
dillydally, you were right! It was Servicing the Target -- thank you for helping out my old brain. :-)
And yes, I think Homecoming was a success. She went with a group of friends, out for dinner, then to the dance, then to a friend's house that has a pool table. Two of her friends stayed over so I am thinking of what to make for breakfast for three teenage girls. I have bacon. Now what to make with it? Waffles, muffins, omelets? I guess I'll find out when they wake up. :-)
I went to Dunkin Donuts and stocked up with 1.5 dozen donuts while my husband cooked bacon. The donuts and bacon were swarmed like locusts had descended and are now almost gone. Life is good. :-)
