I don't remember her car blowing up with her in it. There was one where it blew up just after she got out of it; slammed her car door & stepped away, while on the phone with Roarke. I think that was Vengeance in Death. She said some unkind things about the perp & he got angry. Roarke heard it & headed for her immediately. Found her being treated by a medtech, just after he reached the car & it looked horrible.
Wait, the one where the guy from Homeland Security (whatever they call it then) launched a rocket at her car & it went airborne...that might be the one you mean. But I'm not sure which title that was, will have to review.
McNab is hit by the fellow e-cop shooting him in Purity in Death; in their quest to get the bad guys the legal system didn't; there were a few people hurt along the way...but they considered it worth it. Vigilante justice.
ETA. Found it! Divided in death. Starts with his assistant calling Roarke because she's found her husband and best friend in bed together and dead. Then they find out that HSD knew about Eve's situation in Dallas and left her there. Roarke wanted revenge on those folks, Eve couldn't deal with him doing it, hence the divided. Some folks felt it was wrong that R gave in, that E was wrong to demand he not seek revenge. Interesting that she could justify revenge in Vengeance but not for herself.
You're welcome, bb. Probably has something to do with all that rereading! There's always an in death book open here...and of course, now I'm rereading Divided!
