I read this earlier this week. I enjoy a tortured hero trope so this hit the spot. There is still some irritating constant repetition of the same thought - mostly by the hero about how he is not good enough for the heroine, etc. This had a much more gritty feel than most of Feehan's books. To be honest, it felt like something she may have consulted on but did not contribute that much to.
I laughed inappropriately at one spot. The H has some serious sex hangups that are dangerous for the h so he and his brothers decide that he should try a sex surrogate with them there to stop him if he goes nuts to see if he can complete this specific act one time without killing the woman and that if he can do it with her, then he can try with the h. This is such a total man thinking moment that even though it was serious, I couldn't help but laugh at how stupid it really was. They obviously never thought to ask any of the females around about their brilliant idea.
Diane, I laughed at that scene as well. I really enjoyed this book and I did like that the story got the point across that no means no whether a man or woman says it without it ever feeling preachy.
So does he have sex with this ow? Does the h find out? What does she say about all of it? So appearently he likes this act but he has never done it? How does he like it if he hasnt done it, what was the act?
If it was me, I would be pissed if my man slept with another women, even if he did it to protect me.

So I saw the surrogate scene a little differently. I felt for the H because he was in so much emotional pain. I thought CF wrote the scene really well because I could feel how H’s PTSD was torturing him.

The H because of severe childhood sexual trauma became violent if someone tried to blow him. The H decided to use have a club whore as surrogate so he could get over the trauma. I thought the scene was heartbreaking & written well.
