I liked this a lot. Actually stayed up until almost 5 last night reading before the words started to blur so I had to sleep. Finished it this afternoon. It had definite nudges of 50 shades but stood up well on its own. I was expecting the stepfather to have a bigger role than he did but this could easily be continued.
This one surprised me! I heard about it somewhere on this site so kept an eye out just because I was curious about how things would work. I was not expecting anything of substance or good at all, this was just a whim. I actually really liked it! Still not entirely on board with tentacles but the story was good, relationship was good (other than one stupid moment later in the book by h). This will be continued and I will probably read the next one. Still couldn't quite picture them on land.
And to be honest if I saw an ultrasound of my baby and it was a squid, I would freak the hell out and there could never be enough alcohol. h doesn't seem to mind.
diane, Thanks for the review on Shiver, I'm looking forward to reading this one, but the references to 50 shades? I hated that book with a passion and generally stay away from anything similar. Please tell me I have nothing to worry about here.

I never read 50 shades but know enough about it for this.
Shiver has a little bit of a similar vibe in that the H is rich, on the darker side, has some emotional issues (but is able to overcome them over time in THIS novel) and is Dominant in bed. H does have a sex club but doesn't have a Red Room that we saw. The sex club does have some rooms that might be fun for anyone into roleplay . . . I found them intriguing anyway.

Tangerine is right. It has the same general feeling with some similar characteristics but the H is not an unstable emotionally stunted boy-man of limited intelligence (and this comes from someone who read all the 50 shades and continues to read the fanfic's). I will read and like a lot of sh** but I don't recommend it if I don't think others will like it as well.
