It's Always Been You by Victoria Paige - 4 1/2 Stars

Cheating but please read for more detail as it didn't feel like cheating.
This is a contemporary romantic suspense with a very jealous/possessive ex-military alpha H and I do recommend it to any romantic suspense lovers out there. It's well written, well-edited and the story drew me in right away. I really liked this a lot but didn't love it ONLY because I don't love romantic suspense. I believe if I was a fan of that genre I would've loved it and it would be a favorite. With that being said, I was still highly vested in the story and loved this H.
The H here is obsessed with his dead (supposedly dead) wife. He loved her with everything in him and losing her gutted him. He's a shadow of his former self, existing but not really living. When she first died, he became a drunk and had a lot of one-night stands. He was looking for anything to help him escape the pain of her loss. The h, in the meantime, has amnesia. She has zero clue that she's married and believes the false story of her life that a close friend (male) gave her. She has no reason to doubt his lies and believes they are a couple.
Now to anyone thinking this is cheating, yes technically it is however neither of them knew about the other so to me it wasn't. They never cheated after they were reunited.
The book begins 3 years after the h's death. At this time, the H has stopped being a drunk and stopped his one night stands. For some reason, he believes the h is alive but has no logical reason to do so. DNA testing had supposedly been done and he was told the body he buried was the h's. Yet, he couldn't escape this "feeling" he had that she was alive. When he does find out that she is alive, it's great! (This is in the beginning of the book.) This guy is obsessed with her. Their first meeting was so fantastic! He was very intense, possessive and focused on the h and she had zero clue who he was! I loved it!
To me, this book shined when it focused on the H and h. This wasn't an insta-love, hop-into-bed story. There's great relationship building and their love felt real. It took time for the h to trust the H and to sleep with him. It just about drove him crazy because he wanted her soooo bad but she wanted to be sure. I loved that!
There's a secondary story here (hence the suspense) that takes more focus in the second half of the book. That part, I was less crazy about - again only because this isn't my preferred genre and not through any short-coming on the author's part. For me, I wanted the focus of the story to remain on the couple and their relationship. That's where this author really shines and I devoured those parts.
All-in-all, I enjoyed the story enough that I pre-ordered the author's new book. I think that shows talent when an author can make me do that for a genre I'm not crazy about, lol.
