Detour and Joyride - DD Prince
Detour
Joyride
Not sure if these have been mentioned. I read the first and am 40% into the second. They take place at the same time so the second has a lot of repetition of things from the first book (different couples).
Some spoilers here:
I liked the first enough to get the second but I am having a slight issue with the second. Normally when reading these types of books I accept a lot of things that would not be acceptable in a regular romance. In Joyride, the h sees a video of the H from before they met where he participates in a gang bang rape fantasy involving a woman who later claims it was real rape to start a war between clubs. H basically kidnaps the h to keep her safe from the other clubs revenge plots against the guys on the tape. H and h are not an official couple and have only hooked up a couple of times but other club thinks she is his gf. They have had sex and he does get a bit rough with hair pulling and stuff like that. She sees the video and believes the rape story based on what she knows which is entirely plausible at this point. He insists it was not rape and they were set up. H handcuffs h to the bed and while she is having what she thinks is a sex dream (I call bullcrap but that is what is written, she is not conscious of him at all). He removes her clothes and has unprotected sex with her where she doesn't "wake up" until the climax of everything. She says rape, H gets offended and claims she started it by rubbing up against him and making sex noises. Ok.
It takes a lot to offend me in these biker club scenarios but this really ticks me off. Even though I am throwing side eye at it, the book itself makes it clear she did NOT know what was actually happening. He KNOWS she is asleep when it starts. Exactly how is this not rape? And then because he is hot the subject pretty much gets dropped by the next morning. Even if she did buy that the gang bang was a set up, which I really don't see how she can based on what she knows so far, he actually did, and I am being extremely generous here, take advantage of her and in effect rape. But he is hot so that makes it ok and it gets completely glossed over and forgotten within hours. I am not expecting politically correct in a biker romance and I will finish the book but that situation is complete and utter bullsh**. If he wasn't hot he would be in prison and she would be demanding that not making thoroughly pathetic attempts at escape, only one so far which amounted to nothing. He isn't taking you seriously when you don't want to have sex?? Bite the f***er off you dimwitted hormone!! It is difficult to take a kidnapping scenario seriously when even the h doesn't seem to care and can only daydream about how hot all the bikers are. OK, rant over I am starting to talk myself out of finishing the book!
