This is one of my favourite authors so it pains me to say that this wasn't a very well written set of stories. The entire book is only 310 pages, so each story is only about 100 pages. For me, that's too short. But that's not why I'm rating it low.
Scarred and Kilted - h sees someone with a stake and a knife trying to break into her neighbours house. Her neighbour that she has jokingly thought of as a vampire. She knocks the would be vampire hunter out. The Vampire finds her and .... instalove.
Lacy and Lethal - Lacy is a vampire hunter. She and her team catch Lethal. She is the one tasked with waiting for daylight so she can open the skylight cover and fry him. But he's just too sexy for her to resist and .....instalove.
Mine to Chase - Chase (a werewolf/vampire halfbreed) kills a rogue vampire and finds one of his victims still alive, but barely. He saves her with his blood and .... instalove.
Each story contained a mating a that was pretty much instantaneous. Less than 24 hours from meeting to mating. With only 100 pages and a fair bit of sex, there wasn't much left for actual plot or character development. But as long as that is what you are expecting, then fine and dandy. The problem is the writing level. It was very weak. I've always overlooked Ms. Dohner's writing weaknesses because her plots and characters are so compelling. But this was much worse than usual.
In particular, I object to the phrase "only turned her on more". I also object to the extreme overuse of the word instead at the beginning or end of a sentence. It's redundant and awkward. Add that to general poor editing and this was not up to snuff.

secretromancejunkie I think she must have phoned in this book, as well as Cato's Captive (Zorn Warriors #5) In my opinion neither of these books are anywhere near the storytelling level of her other books. Perhaps these were written when she was not well or under a lot of pressure to get something published.
(In the spirit of fairness, I have to say I own all of the New Species, Zorn Warriors, Cyborg Seduction, VLG and Mating Heat books in audio and print. I am definitely a big fan.)

Yeah, I didn't think Coto's Captive was exactly stellar either. I love all her series except the VLG. I only read the first book of the VLG series and wasn't impressed. Someday I'll give it another go. I know lots of people like it.
I know she had a stroke a couple of years ago. I don't know if that's a factor or not. I think this feels more like her early stuff. A more immature style of writing. Who knows.
However, this book specifically lists an editor (Kelli Collins). She doesn't seem to be doing her job.
