tangerine - I don't understand why they (Ammy) won't let you loan nor receive loans and then there's Harlequin e-book availability for you in Australia. It's so weird to me. I mean it's not like you're on another planet! Sheesh! Any idea if they are going to ever fix that for you and your fellow Australians? It's very unfair imo.
Yes, it makes no sense, and it's not just Harlequins . For example I can buy some Mary Balogh e-books but not her Bedwyn Family series. I also cancelled my Audible subscription for the same reason, didn't see the point when so many of the audio books I wanted weren't available to me.
Have you ever asked Amazon Customer service? I'm curious what their reasoning would be and if they would fix it anytime soon. Yeah, I don't blame you. I would cancel it too.

I had a long conversation about this with an Ammie support person because of another issue. I wanted to hook my daughter's kindle to their .fr site so she could get french books. I was told it wasn't possible. First of all, you're supposed to live in the country that you're connected to. Secondly, you cannot be connected to two amazon sites for kindle purchases.
It all has to do with copyright law. Some books have global copyrights, others don't. Ammie is basically being lazy. It's entirely possible to write the software so that it matches your home address against the copyright for each book you wish to purchase (or borrow). They're just too lazy to add that complexity to their site software. So they take the easy route and just say no to everything.
I consider myself very lucky because when I purchased my 1st kindle, I was able to do so through the .com site and I make all my kindle purchases there. Subsequent purchases have been grandfathered in. Anyone in Canada now, has to do it through the .ca site. Although the situation has improved, there is still a difference in what is available on the two sites.

Yes I did and they said something about global licensing restrictions ..whatever that means !
What doesn't make sense is for instance the audiobooks in Thea Harrison's Elder Races series.. not available, so I had to purchase the cd's ( which are more expensive ) and then download them onto my iPod ... Whereas the audio novellas in the same series are available to me and I was able to 1-click those from audible and listen to them on my iPhone
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what Amazon does.. Look at the debacle they've made of the forums. I would imagine any other company would do what it takes to increase their bottom line, whereas it seems that Amazon doesn't care that it's driving people away.

I agree.

I think they (Ammy) are clueless. It comes across to me like zero thought is given to kindle things. Almost like kindle is a hindrance to them now. An annoyance.

I think amazon is literally too big for it's britches. It is now so big that it's momentum is self driving. They can piss their customers off all they want and it doesn't matter. So what if you piss off 10,000 customers when you have millions more. Also, I think the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. One department makes a change that the other departments simply don't know about.
The kindle thing just ticks along without them. Everyone and their dog is self publishing. Doesn't matter what ammie does or even what real publishers do. Ammie makes money, they don't have to care if the customers are happy or not.
Basically they're arrogant and they can do whatever they want. We ants have no affect on that rubber tree!

secretromancejunkie - I agree. Wouldn't it be nice if another company offered e-books and self publishing for authors and gave Ammy a run for their money.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything you've both said... So many posters lament on the forums that with all the changes happening it's driving people away and as a consequence less money spent, but in reality it's just a drop in the ocean for them.
I've never read most of the NA/YA authors, except for a few fantasy and sci fi books. I've also never made it through any of the sample chapters for any of Kristen Ashley's books.
I know nearly everyone raves about the Outlander series, but I've never attempted to read those books. If I'm enjoying a book, it doesn't really matter to me if it's a long read. Heck, if I'm loving it, the longer the better. Uhh... Really, no double entendre intended there. Nope, not at all. However, those books are massive. I'm intimidated just looking at them. Also, I don't think I would enjoy reading about a h who is married and is basically with both the H and her husband, depending on where she happens to be in the midst of her time travels. I've also read that there are numerous scenes of rape in these books. That's not a trigger for me and, I don't even know how graphic these scenes are, but I really just don't want a front row seat to that.

I'm with you, fangfan. Never read Kristen Ashley because so many elements of her style are just unappealing to me. And I couldn't get past the first few chapters of Outlander because of the two husband scenario.
You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.

That's what Smashwords does. When Kristen Ashley first started publishing it was via Smashwords, and I kept buying her books through them for ages because they offered the ebooks in epub (and they had no location restrictions) - which is my preferred format - coz back then I had a kobo reader, which only accepted epub (or pdf). Even now, I have a tablet with Moon+Reader installed, so still prefer epub.
Actually there've been a few authors I private messaged on Facebook, who'd only published through ammy & kindle, and I basically asked if they'd consider selling through Kobo and/or Smashwords, coz of the format issue (and patchy location restriction problems with purchasing through ammy US being an Aussie).... guess what??? While a couple ignored me, a couple were only too happy to help (and broaden their chances of obtaining sales). - Velvet Vaughn was brilliant, she'd sold through a few places at first, but later she went with ammy only, but when I messaged her, she couldn't get back to selling through more sites fast enough - it was like 24 hours!

I've never read anything by Kristen Ashley either. I stopped with book three in the Outlander series because I couldn't stand the couple being jerked apart over and over again. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite historical writers. Treat yourself and read Dreaming of You, the Wallflowers and the Hathaway Family series.
