An official member of what? Nicholas Sparks, I hope so since I was the one who put his name down first! LOL
Ahh... So you're the founder of our very exclusive club.
fangfan, I sure am! Actually I was kinda embarresed to admit I havent read any of his books, thought I was going to get burned at the stake or broke an unwritten romance book rule. LOL
Banana Boat, cant believe you forgot about me already being in the club 😢, when you suggested we should name it, I said you should pick the name since you suggested a club. I am heartbroken now!! 😭, LOL
Sadly, I cannot join the No Sparks club as I did read a Nicholas Sparks book some years ago. I've also read a number of books by Jodi Picoult. I haven't read any books by Lynne Graham however.
I read mostly historical romances or historical mystery/romances so there are lots of authors I would probably enjoy, like Katharine Ashe. Her series "A Devil's Duke" sounds interesting to me. But where do you draw the line? I have so many books on my kindle now, waiting to be read, and my favorite authors aren't helping because they are always coming out with new books that I can't wait to read. And then you ladies recommend books that sound good. Wish I read faster.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what Amazon does.. Look at the debacle they've made of the forums. I would imagine any other company would do what it takes to increase their bottom line, whereas it seems that Amazon doesn't care that it's driving people away.
tangerine, what happens with books and audio books has nothing to do with "what Amazon does." It's all copyright law and distribution rights, and those are determined by the publisher or (in the case of self-published books) the author. Amazon has to follow the laws.
I agree that Amazon made a hash of the forum situation, but I hate it (in general--not directed at you personally) when someone (person, company, any other entity) is blamed for something over which he/she/it has no control. Amazon (or any other retailer, for that matter) cannot sell items that are not legally allowed to be sold in a specific country. For digital goods (music, movies, audio books, e-books) there are also, as I stated, distribution rights to consider.
I have never read any books by any of the current crop of (mostly self-published) contemporary writers who write in the first person. I rarely enjoy first-person books (there are a few exceptions: Jane Eyre, Nero Wolfe mysteries, Robin Hobb's Assassin's series, Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson, Magnus Chase, and Trials of Apollo series). When I read, I want to, for the most part, escape into the character's world--I don't want to become the character. I especially hate books written in first person present tense, mainly because (especially, again, with the self-published authors) authors make mistakes and arbitrarily put something in past tense somewhere in the book.
Some authors I can think of off the top of my head are Mariana Zapata, C A Harms, some books by Noelle Adams (I love most of her third person books), Penny Reid (I think that's her name--the Winston brothers books), some romantic suspense (especially military-related) books. If I see a recommendation that seems interesting (or a title mentioned in the free or bargain book threads) and I see from the "Look Inside" that it's first person, I stay away from it.

flipoid, for some strange reason, I don't mind reading first-person in a fantasy or science fiction book. With a few exceptions, Mariana Zapata for one, I don't really care for first-person in a romance. And that's kind of strange, because as a teenager, I loved gothic romances, many of which were written in first person.

Yes,fangfan (sorry, I can't find the button for tagging), did you notice that one of my exceptions is Jane Eyre? The story, even for sci-fi/fantasy or mystery, has to really grab my interest. The one romance exception (besides Jane Eyre) that I read and enjoyed (the first few pages, I was almost forcing myself to read, but soon got really into the story) that's first person is Noelle Adams's Chasing Jane; I've even reread it a couple of times.

flipoid Thanks for bringing Chasing Jane to my attention. It looks interesting and cute. The Jane Eyre reference doesn't hurt either. I'm going to one click now.
