I have the Hoover Windtunnel High performance for pets and I love it. I had a rat terrier that shed buckets and it picked up all her fur. It has a very long cord which is a bonus. A vacuum repair man once told me to always buy Hoover because they are the easiest to repair, so I have and my vacuums have lasted me for many years. I have tile floors. I had a Dyson once which cost more than twice as much and I didn't like it--it pushed anything of any size around instead of picking it up and it wasn't that great for pet hair.

Me too and have had for many years initially for 3 cats, but since then 3 dogs that never shed. I once had a Hoover for 25yrs.
FYI-the books written by British authors do not use the word vacum but say they are hoovering. Great advertisement just like saying Asprin and Kleenex. I love the words the British use which for me adds some flavor to the story.
Here comes the sun even though I love that rainy day feeling!

Me too, Natasha! I love Britishisms. I also love the way Scots express themselves. My best friend is originally from Scotland and still has a heavy accent even though she has lived here many years. Once, right after she got back from a visit home, she was trying to get a waitress's attention and called "lassie, lassie." I loved it!
I've always wanted to visit Scotland but no more traveling for me. Fortunate to get to England but many yrs ago on an European Art tour for a month. Would love to go back to England to see where Jane Austen lived and places mentioned in so many romance books which I was not reading this genre when I was in England. Also if I could still travel now I would tour Canada which I've romanticized since I studied about Canada in grade school. It's only a car ride away. When I was very young I loved the name Saskatchewan and of course romanticized this province and then found out they also had strip shopping centers...very disappointing! lol

I grew up across the river from Canada a loved going there. Now I live across the country but I really miss the north.
Your mentioning hoovering reminds me of my first experience with that in British terms. I was reading a Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers mystery by Elizabeth George. The detectives noticed someone was hoovering on the second floor. I thought it was a typo and there was some hovering going on. LOL Good times, good books.
I just had to create a goodreads acct for my 10yo because with covid, she's reading books online and rereading books we have here and our old system of a spreadsheet of books we checkout from the library isnt going to work. (We need to keep a reading log for the summer) We just scanned in 135 books she's read so far! Yes, many are way below her reading level - Magic Rainbow books?? but its what we have.
mrsc kids grow up wayyy too fast. I have an image in my head of what my nieces and nephew looked like not so long ago, but then doing the math the years went by so quick. have you tried libby? It's basically like borrowing books but e format from your public library. But teachers are understanding that parents are making due with what they have at their disposal.
On our end teachers here created the logs in google classroom and the students just log in and type it in, and much to the dislike of my nieces and nephew their teachers actually assigned them work through out the summer. There's one particular teacher who calls all of his students parents and gives them progress reports. It's funny because the teacher they complain about the most was my favorite teacher when I was in school, life is funny that way. He started his first year of teaching when I was an 8th grader, he's then stuck to either 6th or 7th grade, and now he's taught/teaching one of my nieces (oldest, about two years ago) and he's getting the second oldest this upcoming year. Now his son and my niece (oldest one) are in school together, and would have been in the same STEM summer program this year as well.
Good luck to your 10 year old with the summer reading.
On a different note, I made my first solo shopping trip this morning, I just want to say that wiping groceries on my own on a extra hot day with the humidity suffocating me isn't fun. I am done for the day, no kitchen or cooking for me if anyone wants to eat (my self included), the fridge is in the kitchen and they can make themselves something, I'll be in the living room enjoying cool air and a tall glass of cold water. It's just too hot for anything other than that...
It was 99 degrees today with a heat index of 108! Crazy! Needless to say I stayed inside with the AC and my TV shows. One of my TV soaps went back to filming with safety protocols in place a few weeks ago. They ran out of new material during the shutdown, so the viewers are getting new shows this week! How long they can keep filming remains to be seen with the virus spike in LA where they film. What will happen this fall with all of the returning TV series not being able to make new episodes? I wonder if there are some new series that were made in the last few years but shelved for some reason and not shown. Maybe they could be brought out to watch for a while. I know new TV shows and movies are not that important while people are sick and dying. I'm just curious about what will happen since that has always been a major part of my entertainment other than books.

Hi Ms. D., are you talking about The Bold and the Beautiful or The Young and the Restless? I’ve been watching most of the Golden Oldies that have been showing during the shutdown but will be happy when there is something new.
I’ve not tackled This Is Us or The Good Doctor or Blacklist yet but am caught up with Blue Bloods, FBI, Prodigal Son and The Rookie. Same with me... Books and TV are my entertainment. It does make one wonder if things will ever be normal again.
Hi Janie. I was talking about The Bold and the Beautiful. They did the first new show today since running out in April. Young and the Restless and General Hospital just started back for filming, so it will be a little longer for them. And all of it is dependent on permission from the local governments allowing them to proceed on a daily basis.
I also watch This Is Us, The Good Doctor, and Blacklist. None of those shows have been able to film any episodes for the fall so far, and it is likely they won't be back until sometime in 2021. I also watch Grey's Anatomy, A Million Little Things, The Resident, New Amsterdam, and Manifest. I have not seem any news that these shows have started filming for the fall. I think it will be next year before we see them again.
I watch a series on HBO called Succession and on Showtime I watch Billions. They are on hold for any filming until safety procedures are put in place. There are so many restrictions and regular testing has to be done. It's probably a nightmare. I have started looking for shows on cable channels and Netflix that I may have missed from the past that I can go back and binge watch while waiting for my regular shows to come back one day.
Okay, I do feel old! You mentioned just started filming so will be a while before they're broadcast & my mind remembered watching them with my Mom or Grandma...and they were live broadcasts! OMG! My grandma & her sisters (six of them total) would always watch As the World Turns--they were spread out over Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and Alberta but this way they all knew what they were all doing at the same time!
This week I am going to take it easy as all get out. It's too hot to be in the kitchen, I basically prepped a few meals for the week late last night, the only meal I'll be making is coffee and a cereal bar or toast this whole week as my breakfast. I melt every time I think about making a hot meal.
I have been reading and not watching much of anything on t.v or online. I may start a web series Tagged it's a teen series filled with mystery and a feel of YA psychological thriller. I have the time to watch all it's seasons, plus each season is like 12 episodes long. I may just ignore the K.A. book I just got and take a break from it, instead of going with my original plan and finishing the book before the last one comes out and take a break until the end of the month from the series.
It's funny you all mention all these soaps, I know all of them, never seen them (an episode here and there at doctor's offices) but the one soap I remember is Passions. Though that one ended a few years back.
I like New Amsterdam, though I have only seen a few episodes as well, the actors they have are really good. Freema is awesome.
Okay I need a new cup of iced coffee, so I'm going to go make me some of that.
I owe everyone an apology for disappearing from the board. I've been dealing with some health issues (not virus related), feeling overwhelmed, and generally not in a good headspace. I'm climbing back out of it and feeling a bit better. My book slump is the worst ever at the moment, though. I find myself almost exclusively rereading because new-to-me books just don't hold my attention. I've been spending more time my art room than I have reading simply for the distraction.
Health related -- my doctor wants to revisit the possibility that I have Marfan's syndrome. This is something that has been kicked around by various doctors since I was a teen but never followed through on. The fact is that IF I do have it, and have survived this long, it's effects in me are mild. But there is concern over my 13 year old nephew who has been experiencing some heart problems. He is supposed to go for genetic testing in the next few months, and his results may have bearing on my diagnosis. It also would mean my son needs to be screened because he has the classic body build of a Marfan patient, which is basically my build except he's a few inches taller (6'3" to my 5'10"). I have some damage in my lungs which my doc says is typical of Marfan, including two previous spontaneous pneumothoraxes (both of my lungs have collapsed suddenly, but at seperate times a few years apart). Sometime in the next month or two I will have a new cardiac screening and echocardiogram to check for irregularities in my aorta and to get an updated screen of my mitral valve prolapse. That will also help determine if I do indeed have Marfan, or if it is only the rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune issues I always deal with.
I know that's a lot more info than you ladies wanted. It's a constant worry now, and I have new treatments for my lungs and breathing problems. It has been a lot of stress on top of everything else in the world already being upended. I'll try to stay on the board at least once a day again and not hide like I have been.
Agreads, I'm so sorry that you have not been well and struggling with health issues for so long. No one blames you for taking a much needed break, especially during the virus crisis when you are more vulnerable. It must have been so hard not to know an exact diagnosis or what has caused the health problems you have been fighting. I pray that your doctors can give you some answers and hopefully some good treatment plans as well as provide your nephew and son with much needed information too. I can't even imagine your stress and fears. No one here expects you to put this board ahead of your health needs. Just checking in once in a while is plenty for now for this board. Thanks for being our moderator. I will keep you in my prayers.
