Hope your 4th is a good one! Have fun, but keep safe.
Our 4th will be spent in our grandmother's house (my mom's mother) it's bittersweet since she passed away years ago but her presence in that house is greatly missed. It has the biggest yard out of all of our homes, and the one who can host all of us for a day without any of us being too close together. Everyone will drive there seperatly each of us bringing something. I lucked out and drew jello-shots, potato salad and fruit salad. I'm throwing in some ice cream for the kids, but that's about it for me.
Fireworks are out of the question but I got these LED lights shaped like fireworks to hang up (somehow) outside once night falls. (They sell them on amazon.)Lights
Can you believe the protesters tore down his statue?? Do you think they even knew who he was?
The protestors were and are being taught Howard Zinn's philosphy and the 1619 project in schools for their reasoning of removing Key, Ghandi, Lincoln etc.
Also now inner city neighborhoods without drugstores, retail stores..Target etc burned down and not coming back so where are people only have public transportation and lucky enough to live nearby to walk during covid to purchase their needs!
When President Obama visited Mount Rushmore in '08, CNN called it "majestic" and "quite a sight".
Here comes the sun even though I love that rainy day feeling!
And I'm praying that the fireworks last night didn't trigger any wildfires! They quit fireworks over Mt. Rushmore back in '09 because there had been a very bad bug infestation that killed off a lot of pine & that's still up there, dry & decaying. Excellent tinder for fire. But the current SD gov. wanted fireworks again, regardless that it might kill people fighting those wildfires & she got Trump to back her on it. That just doesn't feel like patriotism to me!
I've always been of two minds about Mt. Rushmore--marvelous feat of engineering but also major maintenance--it's destined to crumble--it's rock! Freeze/thaw/water, etc. Part of nature! And it was land taken away, violating treaties. But it's also a major moneymaker for that area--big help that way...I don't know, I'm very ambivalent on that one!
ETA: South Dakota, not North Dakota! I'm forgetting my geography!!
See precautions taken prior to last night's event...On April 29, 2020 the National Park Service conducted the first ever broadcast prescribed fire at Mount Rushmore. The objective, according to what one of the firefighters told photographer Paul Horsted, was to burn 260 acres in preparation for exploding fireworks over the sculpture on July 3.

Okay, I'd not seen that, but do have to wonder, what did it cost us? And could they guarantee that it would work? And after listening to that speech, I think we would have been better off without the event. Ah well, I did love the Capital Fourth show! But have to admit, I'm behind in my music--didn't know a lot of the performers! Did enjoy the Temps, however! If there had been an audience, they would have been up & boogying! I was!
Wow a speech about our freedom and liberty. Oh well!
Makes me think of Christopher Columbus statue taken down in Little Italy in Baltimore City hometown of Nancy Pelosi whose father, grandfather and brother mayors and governors of Maryland and her father dedicated statues of Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee stating these people were inspirational.
I'm ethnic but don't have to worry about statues depicting my people because there are none. LOL

I saw them at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos (Bay Area). Kind of a neat place, round building with a round stage that revolved. No matter where you sat you had a good seat. I don't think it's there anymore.
I found this Covid-19 Risk Activity Chart. It was published by the Texas Medical Association during the surge that is happening in that state right now. The activities are numbered from 1-10, low risk to high risk. 3 Lowest risks: opening the mail, getting takeout, pumping gas 3 Highest risks: going to a bar, attending a religious service with 500+ worshipers, going to a sports stadium

I have a question, does anyone have a bagless vacuum? I'm in the market for a new upright vacuum and not sure what to get. I do have 2 indoor cats so need something for pet hair (drives me crazy). I've been using a Kenmore for many years and now very hard to push. I've never had a bagless vacuum. Any recommendations?

a tad pricey, but hubby always swore by Dyson
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.
Dyson might not be the best choice for dealing with pet hair though. My aunt got one about 5 years ago and she was always having to clean the spinning brush. Drove her crazy! They ended up putting in hardwood floors. I don’t know which model that was or if it’s since been redesigned.
I’ve heard good things about Bissell but no personal experience.

Thanks everyone. The Consumer Reports best of is so different from thespruce. I'll give it some thought and see what I decide. I can barely push the old one I'm using now.
