Wasn't too keen on The Boss Project by Vi Keeland initially but this slow(er) burn romance was worth the read. Both h and H have been burned badly by their exes and are cautious starting a new relationship. Their meet was quite funny, there are a lot of personal issues to work through before we get to the HEA but it's all dealt with well. Still deciding on my final rating but hovering between 4 to 4.5.
My library ordered Grace Under Fire by Julie Garwood under my suggestion, so I was first to get to borrow this under overdrive when it went live on July 19 as the latest (book 14) in her contemporary romance series. So good.
I finished reading Joanna Shupe's The Bride Goes Rogue which is as hot as the weather around here. I can't say I'd recommend it because I didn't really care for either main character all that much and the plot didn't amount to much if you leave out the bedroom scenes. Oh well. So now I'm rereading Julie Anne Long's You Were Made to be Mine, enjoying it as much as I did the first time I read it. I liked the H and h, and Long tells enough about them to get you caught up in their story. I also loved seeing the secondary characters again, composed of the two women owners of the inn, their husbands, and the other more permanent guests. It's romantic, fun, and somewhat exciting.
I'm currently rereading In the Prince's Bed by Sabrina Jeffries. It's book one of The Royal Brotherhood series. I haven't read them in years. After this, I'm going to read the rest of the series. Then I'm going to read book 2 from The School for Heiresses series, Only a Duke Will Do, because it's connected to book 2 of The Royal Brotherhood series.
I finished two books that I liked a lot. The first is How to Steal a Scoundrel's Heart by Vivienne Lorret. The H & h both have reputations that don't fit who they actually are. I liked the affection you could see between the H and h and how it changed them. The second book is A Bride's Guide to Marriage and Murder by Dianne Freeman, book 5 of her romantic mystery series. I liked all the previous books and this one also. The H & h wedding tour is interrupted by murder, but this has some nice romantic moments and humor also. It's a clean story.
Been so long but decided to pick up an alien romance. Decided on Ensnared by Tiffany Roberts book 1 of a completed trilogy. Our exotic alien is like a giant spider so probably not a book for everyone. It has been an excellent read, it's an interesting world with a very sympathetic hero. I have fallen for this arachnid. Looking forward to reading bks 2 and 3 and if you enjoyed Tiffany Roberts Kraken series you will also enjoy this one. A 4/5.
I've read several of the Bluegrass books by Kathleen Brooks and I knew I liked her writing in those but I have been HOOKED on the Moonshine Hollow series. I've been trying not to get burned out by reading too many in a row but I just want to read one after another.
I had started book one but wasn't in the mood, took a break for a couple of weeks and then went back to it. Boy, once I started I didn't want to stop. I read book one and two, read a couple other books, then read books 3 and 4, read something different, then finished five today while on a plane so I couldn't start six right away. I am reading another book and will finish it but as soon as it's done I'm starting book 6, the last in the series.
I was afraid the whole series would all be about one couple or worse yet, maybe the female wouldn't be able to make up her mind about a guy (thinking of you, Stephanie Plum) BUT I read the blurbs and was reassured that the storyline for the one couple only goes from books 1-3 then more people are introduced. Love the world building in these books.
Now back to reading The Professor's Date (an M/M book with a jock / nerd storyline) then maybe tomorrow night can be book 6.
The first book is free right now! Didn't realize it until I went to get the links. I'll post this in the free books too. I've paid $2.99 for each book. Would be painful if they're all free right now as I have bought them all!
Disappointed in my last read High Stakes by Freya Barker. I have a soft spot for this author as she writes about more mature characters. Nella is 43 years old but behaved like some immature 15 year old. I love a strong heroine who knows her own mind but this one behaved so stupidly repeatedly. For someone who had never ever taken risks in her life a lot of her actions didnt make sense. There were a number of other plot issues that also irritated and when I read the ending I just laughed, books spans over a month and our heroine ends up engaged, moved in with new partner (who I didnt like) and is happily pregnant. Considering her age, that she was shot, lost a lot of blood and was on heavy pain killers I was very surprised to learn of her "miraculous" news after one night of unprotected sex. A 2/5 but looks like plenty of others loved it. I really enjoyed bk 1 so hopefully bk 3 will be better.

thanks bluebear for the honest review; I find FB books hit and miss for me and was debating on whether or not to pay full price for the High Stakes or wait until the price drops. I think I'll wait
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.
I just finished reading Lorraine Heath's newest release, The Return of the Duke. I really liked it. It's the last book in her Once Upon a Dukedom series. It's my favorite of the three. The first two were good but not as good as this one, IMO. I requested it from the library because I didn't want to spend the $$ on the hardcover just in case I didn't like it. Well, looks like I'll be buying the hardcover after all. I'm just going to wait till the price goes down a bit. It's currently $27.00. It's times like these when I really miss Doubleday Book Club selling Historical romances. They were only $9.99 for hardcover editions. That's how I started my collection of hardcovers back in the early 2000s. But for some reason, they decided to stop publishing and selling Historical romances The last Historical romance I ever ordered was Loving Rose: The Redemption of Malcolm Sinclair by Stephanie Laurens in 2014! Shortly after that was when they stopped. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now
bonnieg, this series is a little funny. In order to understand this story, you have to start with another series first. You don’t need to read book 2, The Duchess Hunt, to understand The Return of the Duke. But you should read the first book, Scoundrel of My Heart from that series. The H’s are brothers. But what you should really do is read Beauty Tempts the Beast first. The h in that book is the sister to the H’s in books one and three of the Once Upon a Dukedom series. I know it’s confusing. Instead of Lorraine Heath keep all the siblings in one series, she told their stories in two different ones. So here’s the order to read about the Stanwick siblings, Beauty Tempts the Beast, Scoundrel of My Heart, and The Return of the Duke. I hope that makes sense.
