If at some point you'd like to borrow it, let me know.
Regards, Kareni (ebook hoarder)
Wow, kareni, thank you so much for finding it and for the offer! I'm still at same spot as I was, though, so I'm still going to say thank you but no thank you.
Heck, now my hoarding issue is even worse. :-) I received three (yes 3) notifications yesterday from Brooklyn Public Library that I had books available to borrow. I was busy so I thought I'd get them this morning. Then this morning, I received a notification that my card had to be renewed -- causing me to panic because who wants to have three books available to borrow and not have a way to get them? :-) Thankfully the BPL people responded this morning and within minutes of posting payment, I had access to my acount again. Then tonight, I received another notification that I have a book to borrow. Wow -- I'm four books behind just from BPL!
Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining -- I'm feeling blessed to have so many good books to choose from! :-)
They're still dancing around each other at more than 60%.
Nothing against a slow burn with some good UST but this got a bit old. It was readable but I highly doubt that this is one I'll revisit. The author clarifies that this is an alternate hockey universe. No NHL, etc... I don't really know why she bothered. Other than different team names and no Calder Trophy (top rookie) there wasn't much difference. It felt like a lazy way to explain away any "errors" in research. Some dialogue felt forced. Normalizing therapy and prioritizing mental health was good but it felt unrealistic that it would be placed above team/player performance. They're important but sports are a business and teams have to produce. Also, the nature of injuries and the toll on players' bodies with relatively short careers...can't expect everyone to sacrifice a chance at a championship. And a few other niggles but I won't harp on why it didn't quite work for me. There's potential but I don't think I'll be preordering book 2 and I'm not going to be counting down the days.
FREE from AO3 No Homo Teen Wolf fanfic but you don't really have to know the show. I watched some of season 1 a long time ago with my niece but it isn't necessary. This isn't even PNR. No werewolves or anything. I liked it. It's a bit odd that the one H was so confused about bisexuality but it's good. A lot of sex but it felt organic to the plot. I might read again skimming past that. One kinda weird kink scene. To each their own and all but this was OTT for me.
Another FREE Teen Wolf work at AO3 Windows Again, I liked it. More of the TW side characters were featured. I vaguely remembered a few but, again, not necessary to enjoy. This does feature werewolves and other creatures. Worth a look, imo.
I've been traveling and finally able to get into my laptop. I had to come on and ask if any of you have read May Archer's book Pick Me? Oh my gosh, I'm snort laughing and at one point I was laughing so hard I started coughing. I couldn't catch my breath. Needless to say, I've been enjoying it and plan to go right into book two.
The Long Game: A Gay Sports Romance (Game Changers Book 6) Welp, I think it's time for me to give up on her. I *loved* book 2 but none of the rest compare. I'm not even sure where to start but I kinda had a lot of issues with this one. I felt some character behavior was inconsistent. There were several emotional scenes that deserved more page time and quite a few sex scenes that should have gotten less. It definitely leaned more on the tell instead show. As with her last book, it felt like she was trying to check boxes on a SJW checklist. I'm not denying their importance or the value of their inclusion but it didn't feel entirely organic to the plot. It felt like an agenda....the last thing I want in my leisure reading. Small spoiler (and the fact that it's small is another issue in itself)
Ilya begins counseling for mental health. His mother committed suicide so it's not entirely out of left field that he might also have depression but there was never any hint of it. Again, this felt like an agenda instead of plot development. And he doesn't share it with Shane for quite awhile. AND...she seems to give him an easy fix instead of showing his struggle to get mentally fit.
The ending was unrealistically rosy. Another relatively small spoiler
The fact that Shane's team turns on him when their relationship is exposed didn't quite jive with the previous book. It felt forced and a contrivance to set up the ending she wanted.
. Just...ugh
This won't make the reread pile and I hesitate to reread book 2 at this point. Very well rated so I seem to be in the minority. I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts if you've read it.
mjbett , I bought this soon after it was released. I read about a quarter of it and then it languished for a week while I read several other books. I just resumed reading it today and have not yet finished.
I suspect that I will enjoy it overall; however, I don't find it as compelling as the first Ilya and Shane story.
Yeah, I didn't set it aside but overall, for me, it ended up being just okay. Competently written but not particularly outstanding or memorable. I've been finding flaws with a lot of my fiction reading so I might have rated it higher a couple of years ago?
I've been reading several Charlie Richards books, some in her Shifters Regime series and others in the Beneath Aquatica's Waves series. Some reading in order, others just selecting ones that sound interesting.
Turns out I can loan these and I'm assuming the others that I have. Let me know if you're interested! The Aquatica's Waves books are shorter, the Shifter's Regime books are longer. I enjoy these because I can get wrapped up in the story but they're not so long I get bored.
As of tomorrow, I'll be reading the EM Russell book that is being published tomorrow. I posted about it in the pre-release thread.
ETA: I went to the Brooklyn Public Library website and they have a several Charlie Richards books! So I borrowed the 2-3 that I haven't read yet (and that I wanted to read). I JUST finished reading Undercover Snake (book 5) and BPL had it. Sure wish I'd have thought to check before spending $4.99 on it. Argh. But I bought book six and borrowed book 7 from BPL. So there's that. :-)
Not really much is keeping my interest on the fiction front so I've been noodling around on AO3 in between my non-fiction reads.
74days isn't bad. I sorted down to the Marvel stuff but you can expand out. I've read a dozen or so. Variable length and quality but there's some decent stuff there. The Dog Likes Him Better....was cute.
I finally got around to reading Cronin's Key by NR Walker that has been in my tbr since 2016. I have the next two books in the series, also. It wasn't my favorite by this author but it was decent entertainment. I'll likely read the next in the series soon.

The Blind Leading Quite good. Kinda a lot of sex but organic to the plot, imo, and didn't feel repetitive. I'm not sure that this would be one to revisit but enjoyable in the moment. The ending was a bit too unresolved to be considered a HEA but it's a hopeful HFN. Other works by the author weren't anything special.
I'm currently reading this and really enjoying it. A demon/magi summons a familiar and gets a human Army Ranger. So far, so good. I find myself really looking forward to being able to read more and since I've been in a bit of a reading slump, this is great news.

Okay, so I read this and loved it and then bought the Mage's Guide to Aussie Terrors and LOVED it (posted about it on the "MM upcoming releases" thread).
I like her writing so much I went looking and found her "The Tribulations of Ross Young, Supernatural PA". OMG. This book has me in joy. I'm loving it. I think I've found an author to love and autobuy. The H works the night shift at a gas station and remains calm during all kinds of calamity (and sarcastic with a deadpan delivery) which endears him to the supernaturals (and me). He had no idea supernaturals existed prior to this job. The head of the local vampire coven hires him to handle all the calamities that happen with his clan and the book is so enjoyable. The foreword said she originally wrote it as a serial and it was so popular people asked her to publish it as a book, so she did. So glad I bought it!
