I don't see a thread for this so I will put this here.
The only audio books I have any experience with are the JD Robb ones which I am currently listening to in the car when driving and am on about #30. My initial reaction was that I hated the scooby doo voices for Peabody and McNab but loved the voice for Roarke (that little bit of Irish, swooon!) and the voices for Peabody and McNab got better as time went on. Or I got used to them. I had some gift certs to use and saw some on sale so decided to branch out a bit. I got Lisa Kleypas Dreaming of You - one of my top 10 books and Kristen Ashley - For You. I haven't started the KA book yet but took a break from JD Robb to try Dreaming of You. Somehow one of my top 10 books to read is on the bottom of my (short) list of books to listen to. I don't like the narrator's voice at all. Her male voice is just horrible. Derek does not sound like that in my head! So far with her reading it, Derek comes across as a stunned almost rapist and Sara is an ignorant c***tease. That sounds rough I know but I just listened to their first "romantic" encounter and I almost turned it off, it was so bad! It does not read like that at all in my head!! This may be ruining the book for me if I continue. Plus I hate some of her pronunciations. Eg. Lisa Kleypas in my mind is exactly like that with a Kleee sound. The narrator pronounces it Kleye pas with a strong Kliiiii sound, now for all I know she is right about that but that is just the best example I have. Oh, one I just heard was chaise lounge (sp?) was chaise long with no g sound. Does that make sense? Again she may be right but it is wrong to me! I like having the audible books for in the car going to work or exercising (whatever, I will someday, don't judge me!) but will run out of JD Robb pretty soon. Does anyone have any recommendations for books with good narration? Maybe I should be less sensitive? Oh, and doesn't need to be romance either.
