ariane I did the same thing, I had to turn off the wifi connection, I would be in the middle of browsing and it would happen... it was annoying, still is annoying. Every time they do these updates, it's been for the worse not better usage of any of their devices. About two years ago (maybe a little less) one of my kindles (the Fire) wouldn't turn on or if it did it wouldn't move past the kindle logo, this was after an "update" I had to factory reset, and then none of my books wanted to download on the Fire automatically so I had to add them manually one by one... annoying.
kc if there are any readers in their tech department they probably aren't consulted, it really irritates me every time something changes and its not for easier navigation or access in fact it's been the opposite of it. I don't think they even take anyone into consideration but themselves and a paycheck.
And this is why I buy more pb books than Kindle... The worst I can do is forget where I left my book.
Those are my trophies, lol! I get the free e books more than purchasing and when I do I don't spend more than 5 dollars. And if I love an e book I buy the physical one, but only the ones I have read on KU and have liked. I have so many books, physical ones but e books are easier to carry around since the kindles fit in smaller spaces (specially my diaper bag for my kids).

I do the same thing. I'm big on free books and cheap books. Some authors that are my auto buys and big time favorites I will buy both. Before Kindles I'd pack 5-10 books when we'd travel and manage to find a 2nd hand books store on the way.

I have a few hard copy books - mostly business books. I was an organisational/leadership/sales coach and travelled to most Australian states for years, using workbooks and various reference books - hard copy.
In 2010, my son gave me my first Kindle for Christmas. I bought about 10 books that first year, mostly reference books as I was in the midst of a divorce and trying to keep myself afloat. But...life got much better and I rediscovered my love of reading and now I have over 5300 ebooks in my Amazon/Kindle Account. I don't 'keep' many books on my Kindle, I usually download the book or series I intend to read that day.
With so many books, every two/three years I reconcile my Kindle account to my excel spreadsheet where I track and review my books (a very precious item backed up weekly)
To reconcile my Account, the method I use to track my Amazon/Kindle purchases is log in to Amazon account, click on Returns and Orders (top right had corner of screen), then Digital Orders. My monthly KU order and all purchased ebooks are listed in date order with links for full details. I have found very few errors - maybe 10 since 2010, with my total loss about A$30. (some books removed from Amazon).
But my annual book budget is US$1000 and until last 2023, I had been about $3000 under budget. Once I retired and the US$ to A$ exchange rates are no longer favourable for me, I decided to try KU instead.
I can enjoy my books, eat out at local cafes and not feel alone or isolated. I am grateful I live in these times, with Amazon, Kindle and so much choice. I have a good local library, I love my Kindle and the freedom to read what I want, when I want, how I want. Bliss!
My budget had to be adjusted due to my pregnancy, so somethings that would be for spending on miscellaneous things I deviated for what my insurance didn't cover. Which was still a hefty payment. I also had to make some concessions because I'm taking about 3 weeks extra of maternity leave which won't be paid, so then rest of it will be used for bills and mortgage. My personal library, public library and KU will have to do until it regulates again and I start working full time again. Plus it will give a chance to catch up on the ones I do own (wishful thinking, lol!)
The baby is doing great, big appetite, she power naps instead of napping, big brother is doing even better (he's got his toddler bed now) and hubby takes him to play basketball after work (more like kids running around chasing balls) with a few of his friends who have kids Leo's age or close to his age (oldest one is 5). Tires Leo and once they come home it's bath time, dinner time and real quickly after bed time.
I'm a little under the weather but it is high allergy season so I'm trying my best to keep on top of it, but some days are better than others. I also have a molar that's been bothering me, I have to make an appointment with the dentist and see what's going on.

You mentioned kids running around chasing balls. Sounds like there is a method to their madness, tire the child out! When my brother and I were very young my dad would put the John Phillip Sousa record on the stereo and then we'd march all over the house and backyard to the music or my mom would play what she called the "skipping song" on the piano and we'd skip all over the house and backyard. I'm sure they had a method to their madness! Seemed to work.

What appears to happen now for some books is that when you try to transfer content and select the device under the dropdown menu for the book, the button for "Make changes" is greyed out. If instead you select the check box to the left of the book title and then choose the "Deliver to device" button, a menu pops up with the note "Due to device compatibility, we cannot guarantee all titles will arrive on your device(s). Select where to send these 1 title(s) to."
My guess is that Amazon was recently updating lots of book titles and adding new versions of covers -- if nothing else, judging by the number of Kindle Unlimited titles being swapped in and out recently, they were at least modifying these books, and a lot of the cover images looked updated.
The device I was using and seeing this behavior on was a recent Kindle Signature Edition (slightly larger screen size than a Paperwhite). It should handle new content loads (at least when content updates are commanded via a web browser). I was always able to get may content back via a restart, but who wants to be reading, put the book down briefly, then have the message of having your Kindle Store experience updated and find that the Library and Home page are suddenly blank. Even if you can get back to the book that you were reading (the only icon that shows up on an otherwise blank device), it is seriously annoying to have to restart your device to have things appear again. Much easier to turn off wi-fi for a few hours.
I'm not seeing this now. But suddenly not being able to transfer books to an older (2021) Paperwhite because of that new message is also seriously annoying.
And if you ask me how I know about all the new Kindle Unlimited title switches, when I check my wishlist on my phone, suddenly any title on KU shows up as $0.00 in the mobile format. So, yes, this is recent behavior of the updated Kindle Store experience!

When my nephew was about 2 yrs old, we drove out to southern Missouri for a family funeral. Very slow trip--usually can do it from SW Ohio to S. Missouri (just beyond Lebanon) in one day, but this took the better part of 2 days because we kept stopping to wear the nephew out. He'd nap for a while, then shortly after waking up, we'd stop at a mall or collection of shops somewhere along the interstate & play--mostly chasing or running games. Eat a meal & then back onto the road. Sometimes he didn't go to sleep immediately; had a toy that played music in different styles (pop goes the weasel in hip-hop style?) & he'd play songs & want us to sing along with him. None of us have good voices so ouch! but then he'd go to sleep again & we'd make mileage down the road. Ah well, way better than a little fella crying because he was tired of sitting in his child seat for a really long time!
Interesting the creative ways you get/ got toddlers or other kids to exercise or be worn out. Cincinnati is "the City of 7 Hills." We are also known for our quality city and county parks. Dad took us to the trails of Mt. Airy Forest: some scenic & some hilly.

My husband has said as much, and it was a contender for a future family vacation. Seattle won by a technicality, we have family there and we have been wanting to see them in person.

kc - You mentioned in our Weekend Reading thread that there is a problem with most of our recycle stuff is not being recycled. I've seen those articles and it is upsetting. We have 3 cans, blue for recycle, black for regular garbage and green for lawn clippings and such. The family across the street, and they're all adults, have never used their black can. Yes, I'm nosy plus I can see it from my kitchen window. A few weeks ago we had a very windy rainy storm, and this has happened a couple of times, that when they put their green can out to be picked up the top blew open. You could see the black bags with red ties hanging out. I really thought that the garbage collector would see this, he's up high and has an excellent view, he'd just drive by. Didn't work that way. He picks it up and dumps it in his truck which is suppose to be garden clippings. Irritates me. Why is everyone so careful to put things in the right container if nothing happens when someone repeatedly cheats?
BB - not sure about your trucks but ours have cameras. People have been caught but I am not sure how often they chase it up. I have seen stickers placed on bins in our area (very big and obvious so everybody knows you have been naughty) indicating why bin wasn't picked up but I think in general most people are pretty good and I dont see such a blatant disregard for the rules as shown by your neighbour. Also have random audits of bins and I know our street has been done. If you get caught then you get fined and expect a lot more random audits for a while!
But in general the whole recycling thing is a mess and centres stockpile a lot of plastics as they struggle to keep up with legit ways of recycling it.
