A Secret Love, part of the Cynster series, by Stephanie Laurens. I've read it a few times, but there was always one thing that confused me in it. The h, being the eldest, always refers to all of her younger siblings as her step-siblings. That would mean that when her father married her step-mother that the step-mother already had children from a previous marriage. Her brother, Charlie, inherits the title from her father and is the earl later in his own book.
Josie, maybe I always misunderstood, but I thought step-siblings were those that were related by one parent or the other. In this case, her siblings were from her father's marriage to his 2nd wife, and so Charlie would inherit, being the oldest male descended from his father. My mother referred to her siblings, who resulted from her father's marriage to his 2nd wife, & her mother's marriage to her 2nd husband, as step-siblings (when we got technical). Otherwise, they were Aunts & Uncles, regardless of which marriage!
As for what I'm currently reading...being restless so jumping around quite a bit. I've just finished rereading most of Elizabeth Lowell's Rarities series...picked up the print copy of Moving Target (Bk #1) & read for a while, then finished in the ebk reader since holding open at the end is hard on the hands (weaving & illustrated manuscripts--love this one--esp. the names for her looms!), then opened Die in Plain Sight (#3) (Plein Air painting and my favorite of the 3), and finally into Running Scared (#2) (Celtic Gold artifacts) but haven't finished it yet. I've never understood why Color of Death (#4) (sapphires) is considered part of this series; Rarities never shows up at all--the H is an FBI agent. Not one of my favs. But the other 3, esp. 1 & 3; the descriptions are wonderful, very typical of Lowell. Yes, I still greatly miss her writing but I've accepted that we'll probably never see another book from her again. Ah well, part of life.
