After starting and discarding a couple of books ended up reading Bad Guy by Ruby Dixon which is part of her Risdaverse series of books. It features a beast of a hero who is a clone of brutal gladiator. The heroine is strong and is forced to be the hero's pet as encouragement to get him to behave and fight for their owner, the relationship develops slowly and I really liked both main characters. For me though the second half of the book was a bit weak, it tended to drag after the hero was rescued, first half was excellent. A worthwhile read, 3.5/5.
Also enjoyed Refuge by J J Blacklocke which is the first book in a completed trilogy. It is a space opera, very light weight SF with not a human in sight. The first book covers 3 days. It is set on a trading station where 1000 Vennans are attending as part of a celebration/ cultural exchange. Their world is destroyed and so the story begins. I chose to listen to this as it is read by Kate Reading and she is always good, it was the only reason why I tried this book. Well written, has great characters with some interesting and different alien species. A 4.5/5 and I will be getting the rest of the series.(not a romance but a sweet read)

I read this some time ago and also intend to read on. I don't recall too many details, but I seem to remember that there was a lot of crying!
I finished Eloisa James' Wilde Child and enjoyed it a lot. I liked the humor, the MC's learning about each other, the Wilde family's support of each other, pretty much all of it. Now I'm reading Mary Lancaster's Letters to a Lover, the second book in her "Crime & Passion" series. I liked the first book a lot, and the H & h from that book are in this one also, as the two heroines are sisters. It's an interesting mystery, and I like second chance stories involving married couples who have drifted apart.
bonnieg I have also enjoyed the Mary Lancaster book you recommended, Mysterious Lover, will finish sometime today. I was a little distracted when I read the first half but have enjoyed the tail end now that the mind is more relaxed. A good mystery, with some gentle romance. It was a nice change to have a hero from Hungary. A 3.5 read for me and the second book is already in my library.
bluebear I also like the hero, Dragan Tizsa. It looks like there is one more book that will include Lady Grizelda and Dragan in an investigation coming out in June. I'm looking forward to that one also.

I finished reading 'Jack and Jill: A Village Story' by Louisa May Alcott. A curious read and somewhat enjoyable. I definitely like Little Women and An Old Fashion Girl better.

Found I Married a Lizardman by Regine Abel to be a good and quick read. It is mating agency marriage match which is something I tend to avoid but this one was ok, simple, has a strong h and nice H, and an interesting storyline. Not too much angst with issues resolved quickly despite the cultural and physical differences. Not something I would reread, it's is available on KU. A 3.5 read.
I enjoyed the movie and for an older guy, William Hurt is hot!
foureyedgirl, have you ever seen the movie Michael with John Travolta & William Hurt. Granted, JT is the main draw but Hurt is sure fun! And JT as that angel: Battle!
"I finished reading 'Jack and Jill: A Village Story' by Louisa May Alcott. A curious read and somewhat enjoyable. I definitely like Little Women and An Old Fashion Girl better." I also read this many years ago & enjoyed it! (I had a broken leg at the time but mine wasn't from sledding--we were playing hide & seek, I jumped off the porch, landed wrong & while I was laying there, my sister ran up, landed on me & yelled you're it! I heard it crack & yep, was crying for a while! I preferred Eight Cousins & Jo's Boys over Little Women and Old Fashioned Girl was one of my favorites!

I haven't seen the movie Michael.
I'm glad that you enjoyed Jack and Jill, too! I haven't read either Eight Cousins or Jo's Boys yet. But I want to so its on that ever growing list. I would also like to read a good biography of Louisa May Alcott.

I recently finished two books I enjoyed a lot. They both have a MC that you have to feel could never be a part of any HEA. In Maddison Michaels' The Bachelor Bargain, the hero is known in London as the king of the underground, although he has moved on to legitimate investments. Seb's a rough character but has lots of good qualities that attract Olivia, who isn't afraid to stand up to him. There are several mysteries involved and lots of action-mostly where the H is recuing the h. The other book I read is Georgina Clarke's The Corpse Played Dead. Lizzie is a harlot, who was kicked out of her home by her father, a vicar, years ago. She is supporting herself until she can retire, soon she hopes, from her life as a harlot. Meanwhile she is also helping Inspector Davenport solve several crimes. They are an unlikely pair. I had a hard time putting either book down.
bonnieg I enjoyed the first book by Georgina Clarke, look forward to listening to the second, lucky the library had them both. I was sad to see only 2 books in the series to date, I hope she will write more.
I enjoyed reading A Skeptic in Harlem by Fiona Grace a freebie from my long list. Its a an entertaining cozy, with a likeable heroine who debunks paranormal incidents. A clean read with only a hint of romance towards the end and while not my usual style if you like a good cozy mystery then I highly recommend this one. A 4/5.
Had less success Call her Mine by Melissa Foster, this is an author I havent tried before but always see her name so thought I would try it, listened as part of KU and gave up half way. Highly rated but I found too many things annoyed me, in summary the relationship between the h and H just moved to fast, yes they had known each for many years and had lusted after one another but their coming together wasn't romantic for me. It all seemed too convenient.
More luck with the first book All Systems Red by Martha Wells from the Murderbot Diaries Series. This is SF, its a short fun read, a good mystery in a new world. I have been collecting these audios every time one has come on sale and finally started to listen. A 4/5.

I finished Grace Burrowes' How to Catch a Duke which I thought was okay. The main character, Steven, is a duke's heir but wouldn't become a duke until the death of his older brother, a man Steven loves and admires. That they talked about his becoming a duke seemed strange to me. There was also a lot of discussion about "bed hopping" although none actually takes place in the story, except our H & h, of course. Steven also confesses to Abigail, the h, his bisexual encounters as a curious young man. But I liked the genuine emotion and humor in the story, so a mixed review, I guess. I might have liked it more if I'd read the other books in the series.
