I reread Georgette Heyer's Arabella which I first read over 30 years ago. No wonder I'd forgotten a lot of it. I really enjoyed the book with it's humor and great characters, especially the hero Robert Beaumaris who found the girl he didn't know he was looking for in Arabella, a young, sweet vicar's daughter. I also finished The Duke Who Loved Me by Jane Ashford and liked it also. The hero, James, is a far cry from Mr. Beaumaris, but you can't help cheering for him and hoping he will come to deserve Cecelia. After reading the teaser for book 2, I think that one might be even better that this book 1.
I am almost done (2% from the end) with The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling a solid 3.5 star read for me, not something extraordinary but a decently paced quick light read. It is October, so some horror paranormal stuff needs to make itself known into my life and not just in movies or shows. I am reading some Scary Stories to tell in Dark the illustrations are still the best.

I finished reading 'Mistress Bradstreet: The Untold Life of America's First Poet' It was mainly for a paper for school, but also I'm interested in learning more about Anne Bradstreet. Mistress Bradstreet was an interesting and informative read and I'm eager to read more books to gain more information on her life from other sources and other viewpoints.

I hurt my leg 3 weeks ago and I havent been able to walk so I'm very very slowly finishing up the audio for book 3 in The Callahans (4 book series) by Lora Leigh It is utterly maddening. The books are convoluted and difficult to understand to begin with esp as audiobooks and now to go days between listening to them and only getting them in short spurts is not going well. None of my libraries have the ebook
On the actual reading front, I've started Guardian Hostage Rescue Specialists by Ellie Masters I'm about to start book 3 and I'm hooked. I'm actually supposed to read a book for book club on Friday but I am really enjoying the series and I dont want to stop!
Ouch! 3 wks of not being able to get around; even with lots of reading & stitching, I'd be going crazy! I hope you're back up on your pins soon, mrsc! Watch your balance!
mrsc Hope your recovery goes smoothly. Thank goodness there are books!
I finished When You Kiss Upon a Duke by Charis Michaels and liked it a lot. It was more romance than adventure, the story leading up to the H and h going to the rescue of English merchants in Iceland. Most of the story is about Isobel and Jason learning about each other. It was good. Then I moved on to Grace Burrowes' Miss Delightful which was just what I expected from Burrowes, romantic and entertaining. There's a bit of a mystery, a vile villain, and a great H & h. Both books I read were similar in that the heroines had very unfortunate histories in regard to a man, and the heroes were determined to make them forget the past-a trope I like.
mrsc Wishing you well and hope you are back on your feet and walking soon so you can enjoy your audiobooks again. I feel your frustration as my walks are my favorite time to listen uninterrupted.
Finished reading Loving A Lady by Nichole Van which is bk 3 in the series. A good read but I preferred bk 2, I found the indecisive heroine a bit frustrating at times but the twist revealed in this book was unexpected. This is a series that need to be read in order, looking forward to the next book which will bring me closer to Jamie's story. bonnieg So glad you kept that little surprise quiet!

Thanks all! I finally finished Secret Sins. I had to cheat and listen to it while driving and grocery shopping as the loan period was ending today. I ended up getting Deadly Sins as an inter library loan paper book.
I'm having an MRI on Tuesday so at least there should be an answer as to what is going on.
I read The last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave (NOT a romance but pretty good) for a book club. Stayed up a good chunk of the night before and finished it an hour before we met ..... And then we didnt talk about the book at all! Most of the people hadnt read the book. I was a little annoyed. My 15yo's response when I got home? "Mom book clubs are all about Wine. Some are Whine and others are Wine but that's all they are. " OK then. I did have a glass of wine so I guess that's fair!
mrsc your daughter's got it right, down right funny, lol! My book club was supposed to meet yesterday, we didn't due to one of of cousins testing positive for covid-19 (he's good, vaccinated so he's just quarantined for 10 days or until he takes a test and it's negative) and we just decided to virtually meet and set up a zoom meet. It was fun, they got to see the baby and show off some of their Halloween decorations (I don't have any decorations but I had the baby to show off, lol). Our book was The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, due to the Halloween spirit.
Our next read is something with Krakens in it by Tiffany Roberts. (My sis in law picked it.) I think it's aliens. I know it's not the first time I've heard the plot, and the covers looked familiar. I know I got the box set for free on KU.
I read Shari Cobb Smith's Death Can Be Habit-Forming, the new John Pickett mystery. It's a little different from the usual mystery because most of the action takes place at Larches, a home for people trying to kick the opium habit. I liked seeing John and Julia in action and also learning about Kit, John's newly-discovered half-brother. There are places where John doesn't seem to be at his best, however, and I can't say this was my favorite mystery of the series. The book can be loaned, BTY.
