I finished the fantasy series I was rereading and can't decide what to read next. I have a huge tbr list, but it's kind of like staring into a full refrigerator and deciding there is nothing to eat.
So, is going out to eat analogous to buying a new book?!
I finished Diana Biller's The Brightest Star in Paris a second-chance love and ghost story. This is the third book of a series, and I enjoyed it although I would have liked more romance and less ghosts. The characters are great, even some of the ghosts, and Ben, the hero, has a loving family we see again in this story. Not to be outdone, the heroine, Amelie has a darling sister. All in all, I'm glad I read it.
Listening to The Physician's Daughter by Martha Conway which is set just after the end of the American Civil War. Vita wants to be a doctor but has no support from her father, this was the plan for his son who died during the war. Instead he is trying to marry her off and is offering a very large dowry to entice suitors. Vita comes up with a plan with her betrothed, neither are interested in marriage but both need the money so agree on a marriage of convenience. While the narrator is not the best it is an intriguing listen so far and am curious to see how the story progresses.
I may have finally finished my JAK/AQ/JC reading binge. I finished the most recent one (Crystal Gardens (Ladies of Lantern St. #1)) and then counted; acc. to the line-up on the Kindle, I've read 21 of her books in this binge! That may be a record, even if I did read a couple other books in there! Thinking I should try to read something different & see if it takes, I actually opened a new (to me) title, 1st in a series I recently bought when the titles were all .99 ea. The Elusive Wife (Marriage Mart Mayhem #1). I got a bit annoyed at her at times, shook my head & asked "why don't you people TALK to each other!" a few times, but mostly enjoyed it & really laughed when "all hell broke loose" as was said at one point! A much faster read than my recent titles so maybe I'll get thru several of the series before I get side-tracked again!
I’m listening to Julia Whelan as she does a fine job with The Guardian Trilogy by Karen Robards. The first two books end on a Cliffhanger and the last left me hoping for more books to come, as I recall. It’s a lot of Action Adventure, CIA, Interpol, Father-Daughter Dynamics, Assassins on the Hunt, and Romance Out of the Blue. If you decide to try it, check with your Library and be sure you have all of them in hand before you start.
1. The Ultimatum (6/17) 2. The Moscow Deception (6/18) 3. The Fifth Doctrine (3/19)

That's really what that feels like, you look and look and can't find anything appetizing, lol!
I have quite the TBR, physical and ebooks are just staring at me and saying 'well, whose it going to be?'
Maybe go back to a favorite re-read and see what happens?
I read a few newer Harlequins recently. The Viscount's New Housekeeper by Lucy Ashford was 3.5 to 4 stars. Nothing original and the villian was super obvious, but I still enjoyed the story.
Cinderella and the Scarred Viscount by Sarah Mallory. 2 stars. This one simply was not written well IMHO, and the dialogue often got awkward and stilted. The basic story has been done better by many authors.
I also read Nessa's Seduction: A Medieval Scottish Romance (Guardians of Alba Book 1) by Jayne Castel for a bingo challenge. I gave it 4 stars even though I really dislike the enemy-to-lover trope. I tried to judge it fairly on the writing and characterizations, and it was a well-written story. I still hate the trope and hope to never voluntarily read another one. Lol.
I read a couple new to me authors and a brand new book from a semi new to me author so far this week. I started off with a brand new author. I read Night Secrets by Kat Martin. I really enjoyed the book. I'm definitely going to try out some more from her.
Next I read The Temptation of a Highlander by Elisa Braden. This book was excellent. I only started reading her a couple months ago but, with the exception of one book, have absolutely enjoyed what I've read from her. I'm looking forward to whatever comes next.
The last book was by another new to me author. I read Savage Storm by Phoebe Conn. I didn't like this book at all. It's 500 pages I'll never get back. The h was so horrible. I have no idea why the H even loved her. I knew I should have stopped reading after she backhanded him in the face. But by that point the book was nearly done, so I slugged my way through. I won't be picking anything up by this author again.
Now I want to reread an old favorite to get the bad taste that this book left me with. I just have no idea what that'll be yet.
A bit of struggle to get through Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher but it just may have been me as I was struggling to concentrate on anything for long this week. I am all for a grumpy hero but this guy was bordering on the extremely unlikable for the first half so it took a while to warm to him and the story. The chapters alternated between his POV and hers. Within each chapter I was sometimes confused as to who was actually speaking and had to keep rereading. Second half improved. On the positive the sex scenes were kept to an acceptable level once the two characters got together. For me a 3.5/5, as I have bk 1 I will read it and then decide whether to try bk 3 when it is released.

I finished reading T. Kingfisher's Paladin's Grace which I thoroughly enjoyed. Steven and Grace are both such interesting characters with difficult pasts. It was great to see them stronger together. There are also other broken paladins that will no doubt be interesting to read about in future books plus an overarching mystery still to solve. I don't really need another good mystery series to get caught up in, but too late.
I reread The Earl in My Bed by Stacy Reid. That definitely got the bad taste out of my mouth from the previous book I read. Now I'm going to read Silver Surrender by Vivian Vaughn. I've never read anything by her before. It's an old school bodice ripper so it'll either be great or bad Here's hoping it's good.
The Curse of Morton Abbey by Clarissa Harwood caught my eye as it combines elements of Jane Eyre and The Secret Garden, two books I loved. With Gothic overtones it is a pleasant read with a few mysteries to solve but not something I will reread. I didnt feel the romance between Vaughn and Nick, it felt off. Book was also a touch too long. A 3/5 read.
