@The Little Library There was another scene that bothered me. I didn’t post about it before because I thought I was being too critical or sensitive maybe but the more I thought about it, the less I was willing to let it slide. So the library builder has a little metal sign in his yard that depicts a “curvaceous woman” and purports to advertise the Dirty Hoe Garden Supply Company. It was a gag gift from his brother. So it’s a prostitute joke, right? Considering how many woman, children, and vulnerable individuals are forced or trafficked into prostitution, the “joke” is in extremely poor taste. The scene is only included to reveal the bigoted neighbor so the point could have been made in another way without sacrificing anything. Again, I realize a character is not the author and I highly doubt this was the author’s intent but I really hated that scene.
Am I making too much of this? I dunno but I’m going to downgrade my opinion. Overall, not a horrible book but there’s much better stuff out there and I am going to go as far as saying I do not recommend. YMMV and none of the reviews (6 now) had a problem with the book:)

I think you're correct that it was a prostitute joke. Perhaps I'm insensitive, but I wasn't offended by it. I do understand your concerns though for those who are forced into prostitution.
I think it's fair to say that I enjoyed the book more than you, mjbett. In fact, I was laughing aloud several times while reading it. Thank you once more for the loan.
Maybe I’m the one being too sensitive but I’m not inclined to give the author a pass for the hooker joke. I’m not an overly PC person but this seems especially tone deaf right now.
The reviews seem to echo your experience so just not my cuppa:)

Reviews and responses to books are always so personal. It's funny sometimes to go to Amazon and read a number of reviews for the same book -- they can range from "utter waste of my time" to "this was the best book I ever read!" It's good that there is something for everyone.
I haven’t read The Little Library yet but I don’t think that sign would have bothered me — maybe because I didn’t think of Dirty Hoe Gardening as a reference to prostitution as much as a joking kind of reference — a play off of words. Or maybe I’m just insensitive as I thought it was clever. Of course, this is from someone who had to clue her aunt in to what “ho” means as her aunt was reading the Stephanie Plum novels.
BTW, I came on here to see if any of you can answer this — there was an m/m book where the guy is looking for a warehouse (maybe for his welding sculpture workshop?) and across the street he sees another man and decides to set up his shop there.
But the guy across the street has family issues which causes issues with their relationship.
Any ideas? I probably bought it within the last couple of months.

The sign also had a “curvaceous woman” on it so I took it to mean prostitution. The dirty part is what bothered me most and makes sport of the women involved in prostitution, often against their will. Like I said, I’m probably the one being too sensitive and I need to just let it go.

There’s This Guy? I usually like her but this was kinda choppy, I thought. Verbose (that’s her style) and it hindered the flow.

Thanks, mjbett. I have it downloaded and at the front of my kindle. In the meantime, I started The Mistletoe Effect, which I think was free yesterday, and I’m liking it so far. It’s cute.
I’m riding shotgun in the car and am on the forum via my phone. It’s definitely not as easy to navigate as my laptop but it is convenient. I haven’t tried it before.
Hard Tail (Southampton Stories Book 2) I liked it and really liked the one clumsy, awkward H. Both Hs are with other people for most of the book but somehow it still worked. The timeline is pretty compressed (3 weeks, I think) which is typical for the author. Still, it would have benefited from an epilogue since they’re barely together when it ends. **watch out for another edition
It's All Geek to Me Short and sweet novella but not much more than a nibble. Not worth $3 imo but I got it cheap from the publisher.
The Magician Murders: The Art of Murder Book III Nope. It’s not *horrible* but I’d hesitate to rec. I feel like I’m being strung along at this point. The FBI procedural stuff is sloppy and the crimes are ludicrous. Some good moments with the Hs but not enough to carry the story. The ending is ridiculously open and the 4th book of this planned trilogy isn’t out until “winter 2019”. No way can she release it this upcoming winter so I take that to mean Christmas 2019–18+ months from now. And even that is a big maybe. $20+ to get the full story and Adrian English this is not. So overall I’d say it’s not bad if you’ve read the first 2 books and want to continue but you also wouldn’t miss anything if you want to pass or wait for book 4. If you haven’t started the series I’d recommend waiting until there’s an end in sight.
It seems my finger slipped on the "buy now" button of Pricks & Pragmatism, oops . It's a cute story, but a bit too short and too one-sided. We don't really get to know Russell, which is a shame. The book would have been a lot better, if the friendship would have been explored more, so the next step would make more sense.

Yeah, I read this one awhile back too. I wasn’t impressed which is why it took so long to get around to the sequel. The Hs popped up in Hard Tail. Just a short scene but it’s cute and we find out that they’ve been together a year now.
