Have to laugh; I said back around May 10th that I thought I'd be getting a haircut shortly...well, it's now May 31st & I finally have a haircut scheduled...for next Sunday, June 7th. Kelly is only working on Sundays, no one else in the shop then & she feels better/safer. Fine by me. However, since the last perm was on March 9th & no cuts since then, it's going to be a cut & then a perm, with a trim for any areas still needing it! Currently, it's just too long to work on the rods! So will be a rather long appt. but it will feel so good afterwards!
Forgot to mention; perm & haircut went well. Kelly & I were the only ones in the shop. Her chair is in the front window & people kept stopping & staring in. We were wondering if they thought it was a show, or just amazed that the shop was open on Sunday? She kept the door locked so didn't have to worry about walk-ins.
I realized I've not come to the confessional for some time; at least, not about book purchasing, and yet I'm doing so much of it! Nine pre-ordered titles that will release this month, and titles that are reduced in price...I keep expecting one of my Kindles to explode! Unhappily, my original Kindle Fire (bought in 2012) is once again telling me the apps are getting full...I have to delete some. I've had to deal with this twice already over the 8 years--I've only bought one app for it; supposed to help with book-sorting/arranging but didn't help so deleted it. Instead, every time Ammy sends an upload, it includes more of their apps & I can't remove them. I've pointed it out to Ammy; they can't remove them either. The answer: reset the Kindle to factory specs, deletes the extraneous apps...along with all the books that I've downloaded to it. Meaning I have to download them again! Granted, I won't download a lot of them, but I will download all those very important authors that I want on there for when I want them immediately, etc. The 2nd Kindle Fire doesn't seem to be having the app problem but I don't care much for moving around in it; retrieving a title to read is slower than molasses...but it sure is fast to bring up the possible titles for sell in Ammy! Even when I've been reading a book, when I quit & come back to it, it takes forever to bring the book back up again! Even quitting out of the Fire while leaving the book open doesn't work; it doesn't go straight to the book when I open the Fire again. Very annoying! And when I complained to Ammy...ah well, those were new improvements that folks wanted. Who wanted? They didn't ask me? Some Tech thought it was wonderful...Bet he/she/it doesn't read at all!
Whoops, side-tracked! Just saying, I've not been confessing all the purchasing! I track my Amazon spending on my credit card spending spreadsheet each month (yep, I'm retired--too much time on my hands?) And currently, it's 25% of the spending on cc for the month! Last month it was 18%! Yeah, I think I need to hang a banner across the top of the computer reminding me of how much I've already spent!
Noelle, how are you folks doing out there with the pandemic, etc? Haven't heard from you for a while. Hubby, etc doing well avoiding the illness?
kc, an Amazon improvement I most certainly do not like is the change when you want to remove the download from the kindle; they have placed the permanently delete option right below it. Now with my shaky fingers I am terrified every time I want to remove a download.
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.

I don't like that either. One quick tap and the book will be gone forever? I haven't tested it yet but I hope if I accidentally choose that option I get a 'are you sure' option.
Hi, Folks, I realized that it's been 2 months since any entries on this thread--despite the fact that I'm still buying books like I'm going to read them all (HA!) Amazon is offering that $8.00 credit if you buy $30.00 worth between some date & today. I thought, no chance, and then 2 days ago, I got the email that I'd earned the credit! Oh yeah, I'm really not paying much attention to the amounts, am I? I think I 1, 2 & 3 dollared my way to that..and there were a couple 5 & 6 dollar titles...
I've not been in an actual bookstore since last fall. Had thought about going to Half Price Books on Memorial Day weekend for their 25% off sale but by then, it was closed like so many other things! Sure feels weird to go so long without being in an actual bookstore, but all part of the fun!
Noelle, we've not heard from you for some time. I hope everything is okay & that you've just gotten side-tracked. Please let us know how you're doing, plus your husband, daughters & grandkids!
I'm trying to cut down on my Kindle book buying. B Woodward's new book is a snoozer, I'm almost to 1/2 pt. Guess I should finish it. Most HR tropes seems recycled to me. IMO, CRs have too many sex scenes repeats, and skimpy on the love. I'm not a book snob, but the majority of what I read seems average to me.
I'll admit, I'm not hitting any that will survive as one of the greats, but so many of what's survived as great literature in our world--I've not really liked them! I'm going with the attitude that if I finished the story liking the cast, had a chuckle here & there (even better if a laugh!) and it didn't have plot holes that even I could thru the piano thru; I'm satisfied! I'm also finding that I don't do well with reading an entire series at once (well, except in rereads of certain series). I enjoy the first 2 or 3, but then start to get bored. Have found it's best if I drop the series for a bit then try picking it up again later.
I keep trying to cut back on the buying--not like I don't have lots already accumulated--both in Kindle & dtb, but I always laughed that's why I made such a good Acquisitions Librarian--I loved to buy things & It wasn't my money! Now it it & I still love to shop--but trying not to go out physically shopping. What's left? Books & stitching materials! And I have plenty of both but still--I'm out there playing in the options! Ah well, doing my bit for the economy?
I have bought many many many books in the past 8 months. I am now told that until new shelves are placed in the guest bedroom I am not allowed to bring any more physical copies into our home. I am now buying mostly e-books the ones I pre-ordered before are not part of the new shelf thing my hubby needs to buy and install.
A am reading reviews more carefully. If a poster said the book had too much repetition, then I don't buy it. Or a couple separated 5-10 yrs? Why the time gap? Or the 'family curse' : please mention 1-2 x only and then move on! If an author employs repetition, he/she may put the readers in a coma?
I know we readers are supposed to suspend logic, but some books have silly plots and are un-readable. Or easier to classify 'DNF.'
